GIA, Bench Tip #16 - How To Modify A Goldsmith Hammer - Research & News

1) Goldsmith hammers can be modified by adjusting the length of the handle to fit the user's hand size and maximize force application. 2) The round and chisel-shaped hammer heads can be modified by shaping and polishing them using abrasive papers and buffing to produce a smooth, convex surface and reduce sharp edges. 3) Modifying the hammer heads helps achieve the maximum potential of the hammer by preventing tool marks from being transferred to the metal being worked.
