Imperial Flame Topaz: A Cutting Journey

The article summarizes the cutting of a rare 615 carat Imperial Flame topaz crystal into a spectacular 332 carat gemstone sculpture by German gem cutter Alexander Kreis. The topaz crystal was recovered over 20 years ago from Brazil's famous Ouro Preto mines. Kreis spent 8 days carefully cutting the topaz to bring out its full range of warm red, pink, and orange colors while minimizing waste, resulting in a 54% yield. The finished gemstone sculpture features both geometric facets and carved grooves to highlight the topaz's intense color variations in a one-of-a-kind piece.
