ADAPT HASP - Key Trouble shooting Information
The following steps should be followed when HASP key operation problems
are encountered.
1. Determine the type of Key you are using. The Key type is printed on
the side of the Key. It is either (Aladdin MemoHASP4) for local Key, or
(Aladdin NetHASP) for network Key.
2. Check if the Key is correctly connected to the parallel port of your
local or server machine. Check if any other keys are attached to the
same port. Stacked keys can have conflict with each other.
3. Check if the Key operates properly in another machine. This
identifies whether the source of the problem is related to the Key or
the system settings.
4. If you have changed your operating system to a more recent version,
or if you are loading the program in a computer that has a more recent
operating system than the date when the program was shipped to you, you
may have to update the Key driver. The newest release of the driver can
be downloaded from the Aladdin web page: http://www.eAladdin.com. The version
of the driver can be verified with Aladdin HASP/Hardlock Diagnostic
tools described below.
5. If the above does not solve the problem, continue as follows:
The program CD that was shipped to you contains two subdirectories for
Key diagnostic and monitoring tools.
- Aladdin HASP Tools This contains a collection of Key tools in
the original form distributed by Aladdin.
- ADAPT HASP Tools This contains a collection of Key installable
tools prepared by ADAPT. It also includes the remote Key upgrade
tool UserHASP.
These subdirectories contain also the setup of Aladdin HASP Device
Driver.
The following tools can be used for trouble shooting local Key (Aladdin
MemoHASP4):
- Aladdin HASP/Hardlock Diagnostic - checks/detects the Key and
generates report;
- ADAPT-HASP End User Tool - utility for key upgrades. Allows detecting
enabled modules.
The following tools can be used for administration/troubleshooting
network Key (Aladdin NetHASP):
- Aladdin License Manager - network key license manager to be installed
on the server computer;
- Aladdin Monitor - network key administration/monitoring utility;
- NDIAG32.EXE - Diagnostic helper program (part of Aladdin HASP
/Hardlock Diagnostic).
6. If the program cannot find the Key, use Aladdin HASP/Hard lock
Diagnostic tool to determine if the Key is visible. If the Key is
visible, the next step is to determine whether it is enabled for the
programmed you plan to run. You need to activate ADAPT-HASP End User
Too (UserHASP.exe). This utility will display on the screen the
programs for which the Key is enabled. If the name of your program is
not among the list displayed, and you are authorized to use the program
you have installed, you need to follow the instruction for filed
upgrading of the Key.
Some of the common problems are:
- Program (ADAPT) is not correctly configured to use the Key
(local key
configuration instead of network configuration);
- The contents of the Key (information programmed in the key) is
incorrect or has been corrupted. The Key may have to be
reprogrammed (upgraded) or replaced.
7. If diagnostic tools are unable to detect the Key, the most probable
causes are:
- Aladdin HASP Device Driver is not installed correctly - reinstall the
ADAPT program, or install Key driver from separate setup.
- Aladdin HASP Device Driver is in conflict with Key devices. Reinstall
the newest versions of their drivers.
- Aladdin HASP Device Driver version is not compatible with the
operating system you are using. Reinstall the newest driver appropriate
for your operating system. Refer to the system driver README file for
information regarding your operating system.
- The parallel port settings are non-standard or the port is switched
off (inspect BIOS settings of your computer).
- The default system printer driver is in conflict with Key driver.
Network printer drivers can also be in conflict with the Key. Try to
install another printer driver or a "Generic Printer" driver into the
system.
- The Key is defective and needs to be replaced.
8. When using network Key refer to the documentation for the following
tools:
- NetHASP License Managers
- Aladdin Monitor - network Key administration/monitoring utility.
These tools have to be installed on the server machine together with
Aladdin HASP Device Driver.
Non-typical installations may require manual customization of the INI
configuration files:
- nethasp.ini - end user configuration file in the subdirectory of ADAPT
program.
- nhsrv.ini - server side configuration file
Detailed information about configuration files and examples for
different operating systems/networks can be downloaded directly from the
Aladdin web page: http://www.eAladdin.com.
