Halloween
Halloween is a famous American celebration and a favourite of
children in most English-speaking countries. Children dress up in
costumes and masks and go around their neighbourhood asking for
tricks or treats. People decorate their houses with pumpkins and
lanterns, and have parties with music and delicious food. Some
historians believe that the tradition of Halloween started in Great Britain
hundreds of years ago.
Boxing Day
In the UK, the day after Christmas is called Boxing Day and its a holiday.
Schools and some shops are closed. People often exchange small
presents and invite their families and friends over for a meal and go for a
walk or spend the rest of the day relaxing and having fun. Some people
enjoy watching sports on TV or eating whats left of the Christmas
sweets.
Gion Matsuri
The festival of Gion Matsuri in Kyoto is one of the most famous festivals
in Japan. It takes place in July and there are parades with decorated
floats. Girls wear a special summer costume and carry traditional bags,
and people dance in the streets. There are people selling traditional
sweets and dishes in the streets of the city and visitors can see some of
the old family houses, which are open to the public.

Many people think that the best place for plants is in a garden, but thats
not always true. If you like plants and gardening but you havent got a
garden, you can still keep some plants in flowerpots around your house
or flat. You just need to find the kinds of plants that are suitable to grow
indoors and can live happily inside your home.
First, buy some seeds and a flowerpot to plant them in. Dont forget that
some seeds like wet soil, but cactuses prefer sand and very little water.
All plants need sunlight but some of them dont like it if they are in the
sun all day, so these are perfect for homes that dont get a lot of sun.
When youve decided what type of plant you want, you should buy the
correct pot and soil for it. Its always a good idea to check on the Internet
how often you should water the plant and where you should keep it in
your home, for example near a window or in the shade.
Dont forget to water your plant once or twice a week according to the
instructions. When it grows bigger, you should move it to a bigger pot.
Check for weeds or insects and cut out any dead leaves to make it grow
