Analecta Bollandiana Vol. 134 Contents

The document summarizes an entry from the Synaxarion of Constantinople about Saint Theokleto, a female saint from the era of the Iconoclast emperor Theophilus. It provides biographical details about Theokleto, noting she was married, devoted herself to charity works and scriptural study, and accurately predicted the day of her death. The entry briefly mentions miracles occurring after her death but does not describe them due to brevity. It highlights one annual miracle where her body's clothing and hair are changed but remain incorrupt.

SAINT THEOKLETO: A FEMALE ICONOCLAST SAINT*

The Synaxarion of Constantinople still shows some grey areas and

passages of difficult interpretation1. One of these notices deserves special
attention, since the saint commemorated is one of the few examples of a
holy woman in iconoclast times who, moreover, was not an image-wor-
shipper. This was St Theokleto the Wonder Worker2, about whom we
have only the limited data provided by a brief entry in the Synaxarion on
August 21. As this is our single source of information about her person-
ality and cult, it is worth pausing to analyze the extant text3:
