Table4specifiesminimumhorizontalimposedloadsappropriatetothedesignofparapets,barriers,balustrades
andotherelementsofastructureintendedtoretain,stoporguidepeople.TheloadsgiveninTable4shouldbe
treatedastheunfactoredorcharacteristicloadsfordesignpurposes.Theuniformlydistributedlineloadandthe
uniformlydistributedandconcentratedloadsapplicabletotheinfillarenotadditiveandshouldbeconsideredas
threeseparateloadcases.Indesign,thehorizontaluniformlydistributedlineloadshouldbeconsideredtoactat
aheightof1.1mabovedatumlevel,irrespectiveoftheactualheightoftheelement.Forthispurpose,thedatum
levelshouldbetakenasthefinishedleveloftheaccessplatform,orthepitchlinedrawnthroughthenosingsof
thestairtreads.
ForalltypesofactivitiesgiveninTable4,theparapets,barriersandbalustradesshouldbedesignedfora
verticalload.Thisverticalloadshouldbeeitheraconcentratedloadof1kNorauniformlydistributedloadof
0.6kN/m,whichevergivestheworstdesignconditionincombinationwiththerecommendedhorizontalloading
ofTable4.Thiscombinationofloadsshouldbetakenintoaccountinthedesignofrelevantelementsofthe
structurethatsupporttheparapets,barriersandbalustrades.
