New Nurse's Journey: Skills and Growth

The document describes a newly registered nurse's experience in their first 4 months of clinical practice. They were anxious at first about medications and procedures but gained confidence over time with guidance from senior nurses. After 4 months, they had gained skills like admitting patients, managing ICU and ward admissions, attending codes, inserting IVs and NG tubes, handling emergency drugs, and anticipating doctor needs. While they made no errors, they recognize the need to continue enhancing their skills through lifelong learning as a nurse.

Being a newly Registered Nurse who entered the clinical practice, I

may say that during the first day, to first week and up to the first month,
I was really anxious when giving medications and worried that I might
do something wrong when it comes with the procedures. But as the time
pass by, I gained skills and improvements which makes me confident
enough to handle the pressure, nevertheless, I am pretty sure, I cannot
reach that far if not because of my senior nurses guidance and
teachings.

Listed here are some of my strengths/skills attained in almost 4

months of stay at this hospital:

Had direct to LR admissions

Had 3 ICU admissions
Had ward admissions
Manages time of patient care efficiently
Attended code blue
Confident in IV insertion
Confident in NGT/IFC insertions
Familiar with Emergency Drugs
Transferred patients to room from ER as soon as possible
Anticipates the needs of Doctors during assessments and
procedures
Attends patients who are for ER management only, including
check-ups and consultation
Knows when to refer to AP/ROD
No medication errors made
No incident reports done

In spite of what has just been said above, I know that I still need to
enhance my skills. Also, I believe my curiosity about things/procedures
that I have/havent done before is my advantage since this profession is
a continuous learning that will lead to further improvement of the
quality of nursing care given to our patients.
