Art & Identity. Alberto Gironella - Queen Riqui.

This painting by Mexican artist Alberto Gironella is a reinterpretation of Diego Velázquez's 1652 painting "Queen Mariana of Spain". Gironella's painting comments on Mexico's colonial past and struggle to establish its own identity, shown through the messy brushstrokes depicting the queen. The painting explores themes of finding one's identity as both an individual and member of a post-colonial nation, reflecting Gironella's own feelings about Mexican heritage and independence in art.
