2D Essay: Cinderella Man

1. Write a five-paragraph essay explaining how James (Jim) Braddock, the real-life hero
whose life is the subject of the film Cinderella Man, is a remarkable character.

2. Create a thesis statement which includes the three reasons why Braddock is a remarkable
character.

Example:
Thesis: James J. Braddock was a remarkable man by the way he lived his life and by the way
he treated his friends and family.

Directional statement: He demonstrated his remarkableness through his kindness,
generosity, and courage.

3. You have been given an outline to help you to organize your thoughts and writing. Use it!

4. For each trait or reason you provide to show that Braddock is remarkable, you must also
give 2-3 examples from the film to support each trait.

Ex. Braddock is an honest man because he makes his son bring back the meat he steals. (Then
explain this incident in more detail). He is also honest because he gives back his relief money
he used when in need. (Explain in more detail).
