LIVINGTHEMYSTICALLIFEANDTHEELEMENTALBALANCE

Itisourlifelongtasktoimmerseourselvesintheunderstandingofthehiddenworkingsallaroundus,and
toputthemtopracticaluseisourrealgoal.Aswedailyliftupourhandsinpraiseoftheinnitegloryof
theGrandArchitect,itshouldbeouraimtosharewithourfellowmanthendingsofsuchdedicatedwork
inordertoadvancetheprogressofthewhole.Thosepursuingthisareeectivelyworkingonamysticallevel
that,ifrootedinthedesiretopurifythemselvesforthegreatergoodandforthegoalofUnity,willeectively
exalttheirconsciousnessfurtherandfurthertowardsreachingtheirHigherSelf.IntheWesternesoteric
tradition,thisprocessisoneoftheprimarygoalsreferredtoasTheGreatWork.

Theentirepurposeofthismysticalgoalistoestablishtheappropriatededicationtothesourceofwisdom
whichmanifestsintheformoftheraregiftsofdivineinspiration,deeperunderstanding,andspiritual
enlightenmentofeverykind.Thelowerinstinctsandintuitionbecomeguidedthroughthesealignments,
andtheperspectiveofbothoneselfandtheworldatlargestartstoradicallychange.Onceatthisstage,this
communicationwillresultintheinspirationtoactasaconduitforVirtue,seekingtorevealTruth,tearing
awaytheblindsofignorance,andpayingnoheedtothesnaresofindulgenceandmaterialisticdependency.
Intheveryrealsenseoftheword,ourrelationshipsbegintotakeaturntowardstheMystical,thatis,our
goalsasaseekerofUnitywithDivineprinciplesbegintomanifestthroughourThoughts,Words,and
Actions.AsanInternalprocess,wearethenabletomanipulatethemanyToolsatourdisposaltoeectively
transmutethenegativitywithinourselvesintopositiveforcesofproductivity.AsanExternalprocess,
fueledbythepuremotivationtoworktowardsthegreatergood,themanipulationsofourenvironmentwill
takeonaMagicalqualitythatshouldalsobeginaectingthosearoundus,andthusourownsituationsas
well.ThischainofupliftforourcommunitywillservetoactastheembodimentofCharity,oneofthemany
manifestationsandexpressionsofLove.

Whensuchoperationsarecoupledwithsymbolicandritualisticpreparationandfocusedwithspecicintent
andtheappropriatecorrespondences,thereingrowsagreatpotentialtoguidetheWilltowards
manifestationofdesire,andthesequalifyasmagicaloperationswhentheyareaccompaniedbyinvocations
ofdivinepowerandtalismanicimages.

However,itisabsolutelynecessarytonotethatifthesechangesarehappeningcorrectly,oftenthereare
greatchallengesofdicultyinourlives.Thisisthenecessarystepofchippingawayatourstone,facingour
owndemons,confrontingourdarksides,realizingournegativehabits,andworkingtoconquerthem.Itis
tobeexpectedtobechallengedinthisway,forinsteadofbecomingdiscouraged,thismeanswehavethe
chancetoovercome.ThisistheWork,itisnoteasy.IntheChamberofReection,wewerewarnedthat
withoutcouragetoriseabovetheElements,theywouldbeourdownfall.Astheyareobviouslyfacetsof
Man,wehavemuchworktodo.EveryoneisElementallycongureddierently,somearebalanced,and
mostarenot.WithoutfacingourselvesintheMirrorinaneorttoidentifyourinnernature,wewillnever
knowwhatneedstobecorrected.

EachElementhasapolarnaturethatisreectedwithinus.Earthisstubbornandstagnant,butyet
grounded,andrm.Waterisckle,fragile,andeasilyinuenced,butyetcreative,healing,anddeeplyin
touchwithemotionalintuition.Airisunstable,overanalytic,andselfdeceptive,butalsointellectually
contemplativeandunderstanding.Fireisviolent,consuming,andilltempered,butalsowarm,passionate,
andfullofvibrantlifeandenergy.IfwecommittostudyingtheElementstounderstandourselves,wewill
thenbeerrealizehowtocounteracteachvicewithvirtue.Butbewarethepenalties;inEarthwemaybe
buried,inWaterwemaydrown,Airwemaysuocate,andinFirewemayburn.
