Tolerancesareveryexpensiveandhardtoattain.Usinguselesstolerancesshould General
be avoided. A tolerance is presented as standardized tolerancegroups. A toler
ancegroupwillbedeterminedbybasedonmouldshrinkage.Itdoesnottakeinto
account postshrinkage and processing or environmental factors. Overall toler
ancetakesintoaccountallofabovementionedfactors.
Tolerances for an injection moulded part are determined by how well material
shrinkage is predicted. Very important factors are injection moulding process
parametersandmoulddimensioning.Plasticpartstolerancesshouldbehalfofthe
mouldcavitystolerances.Itisimportanttoknowproductsfinalproductionmate
rialbeforethemouldisdimensioned.
The most important operation dimensions should be tolerated at the product im
age. It is recommended to use geometry and locationtolerances. It is also
recommendedtouseuniversalroundingradius.
A standard for plastic tolerances is e.g. ISO 27681. On the table below are some ISO27681
suitabletolerancesforplasticsproductsaccordingtoISO2768.
