Root Prefix Suffix

An affix is a group of letters added to the beginning or end of a root word to change its meaning. A prefix is added to the front of a word, while a suffix is added to the end. Common prefixes include "un-", "dis-", "ex-", and "re-", and common suffixes include "-less", "-ing", "-ly", and "-ness". Both prefixes and suffixes can alter the part of speech or meaning of the root word. Homographs are words that are spelled the same but have different meanings depending on the context.
