2.8 Data Analysis
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of digital tools and resources to systematically
collect and analyze student achievement data, interpret results, communicate findings, and
implement appropriate interventions to improve instructional practice and maximize student
learning.
Reflection
The evidence presented for this standard is my Data Overview which I completed in ITEC 7305.
The Data Overview gathered and analyzed my schools demographics and CRCT and Milestones
data results for the past three years. I also compared the standardized test scores to the district
and state scores. In this assignment, I analyzed my schools strengths and weaknesses. I
completed the Data Overview in Google Slides and presented it using Screencast-O-Matic.
Standard 2.8, Data Analysis established the expectations for being able to model and facilitate
the effective use of digital tools and resources to systematically collect and analyze student
achievement data, interpret results, communicate findings, and implement appropriate
interventions to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning. For this project, I
began by collecting and analyzing students demographic and achievement data from the SLDS,
Georgia DOE Website, and school administrators. These resources provided me with state,
district, and school data that allowed me to make informed, data-driven decisions. I had to learn
a few technical skills to use Excel spreadsheet software to create charts and graphs. After
interpreting the results and creating the appropriate graphs and charts, I was able to see trends
in demographics and achievement scores from the past three years at MTA.
To communicate the results, I used Google Slides to design a presentation that I presented to my
school administrators, and then was asked to present to the leadership team at their next meeting.
By sharing the work I had done with my leadership team, I was able to model and facilitate the
use of digital tools to design data teams at my school. After presenting my findings, I spent time
brainstorming appropriate interventions and how we should implement them.
Completing this assignment allowed me an opportunity to research, analyze, and communicate
student data. This project was my first attempt to dive deep into analyzing student data. By
learning to effectively interpret data, I will be able to support my peers in finding solutions to
decrease the gaps in student achievement. To improve the quality of this artifact, I would like to
continue to gather data over the next three to five years and re-analyze my results. The data I was
looking at was very disjointed as the state standardized test has changed drastically each year for
the past four years.
The work provided in the Data Overview impacted overall school improvement. The Data
Overview will be useful in starting a Data Team at MTA that will work to find gaps in student
achievement, and propose interventions to address the gaps. The impact of this artifact can be
assessed by implementation of items proposed by the Data Team, and continuing to collect and
analyze student daily on a regular basis.
