Analyze Learners
This lesson is prepared for students in a Grade 9 class. This class has a population of 24 students.
There are 14 boys and 10 girls in the class, these students age range between 14 and 16 years old.
Most students are Christians however there is one student from the Rastafarian group. Learning
styles in this class vary from auditory to visual and also kinetic. Students in this class are easily
distracted and have a problem with keeping quiet and listening. In order to overcome these issues
students must always be working. Most students have some knowledge about basketball.
State Objectives
Cognitive
- Students should be able to state the first three winners of the NBA
Psychomotor
- Students should be able to distinguish the playing areas on the basketball court
Affective
- Students should be able to complete given tasks together with no arguments.
Prepare the environment: The seating will be arranged so that all students will have a clear view of
what is projected.
Prepare the learners: The students will also be informed of the evaluation exercises that they will be
given at the end of the class. The teacher will create a student-centered classroom by treating each
student fairly. By doing this the students will be comfortable when the class begins. The teacher
should be a facilitator in the discussion that bookends the video viewing. During the video, the
teacher should pause the tape if needed to help students to understand. Also, the teacher may need to
pause the tape to answer student questions
Provide the experience: The learning theory that will be focused on is the engagement learning
theory. The students will be asked to pay attention to the projector to view the video clips. They will
then be asked to use their computers to access their emails and download the interactive PowerPoint
which will be discussed. The clip will be used to introduce the topic.
Require Learner Participation
Student participation in this lesson will include both large and small group activities. The lesson is
structured to begin with large group instruction and activities to prepare for the smaller group
activities. Students will form pairs to complete the interactive PowerPoint.
