Praxis Core Exam Analysis
Exam Requirements
In order to attend classes at UNLV or begin my Bachelors degree in Education, I
must pass the Praxis Core Exam. The Praxis Core Exam measures academic skills in
reading, writing and mathematics. Each has different passing scores. In the reading
portion, the passing score is 156; in the writing portion, the passing score is 162; and in
the mathematics portion, the passing score is 150.
Exam Preparation
As for my preparation for the Praxis Core Exam, I did not study enough before
taking the exam. Before the exam, I only watched a few videos to refresh my memory. I
felt confident taking the test with minimum study beforehand because I have taken
English and math classes at CSN for the past two years. I believed that study alone would
have been sufficient.
Exam Results
As for my exam results, I did poorly. In reading, I scored in the 48% range, which
means improvement is needed. In writing, I scored in the 45% range, which also indicates
improvement is needed. Finally, in the math, I scored in the 68% range, which mean Im
on the borderline of passing. Cleary, I need to study the material better before taking the
official Praxis Core Exam.
Future Exam Preparation
In my future preparation, I will take Praxis Core Review courses at CSN. These
classes should fully prepare me for the official Praxis Core Exam. Also, now that I took
the Praxis Core Exam and received feedback, I know what to expect and what subjects to
focus more study time on.
