How to Enter the Service Mode on a Canon Copier

1. Press and release the * key found on the control panel of your Canon copier.
2. Press the 2 key and the 8 key simultaneously. Do this immediately after
pressing the * key; waiting too long prevents you from gaining access to the
copiers Service Mode.
3. Press and release the * key again. A message appears on the control panel
indicating you are in Service Mode.
4. Use the control panel keys to navigate through the Service Mode menus.

Dont forget ricoh, savin, lanier, gestetner are pretty much the same under the
hood.
Also, dont forget to reboot your copier before trying this. If you are a button
puncher and enter this code wrong. You might lock the machine up for subsequent
attempts if you dont reboot with failed attempts. So if you enter a method and it
doesnt work. Reboot then try the next method. If no rebooting then you might enter
a failed attempt that locks up the machine then enter a good attempt and it still
does not work.

Method 1:
reset>107>stop (hold for 5 seconds)

Method 2:
Clear>107>C (hold for 5 seconds)

Method 3:
reset>107>CLEAR (hold for 5 seconds)

Now lets say, you know the code works and you are dealing with a true network
fanatic you might run into service mode lock. This either disables some or all
service mode (SP) functions.

SERVICE MODE LOCK

User Tools > System Settings > Administrator Tools > Service Mode Lock >
OFF

This unlocks the machine and lets you get access to all the SP codes.

You can now do servicing on the machine.


The unlock will persist even if machine is rebooted.
If you must use the printer bit switches, go into the SP mode and set SP 5169
to 1?.
After machine servicing is completed:
Change SP 5169 from 1? to 0?.
Turn the machine off and on. Turn service mode lock back on.

You need the service mode? Well, there are three major segments of the service
mode. Those are:
1. Adjustment mode
2. Setting mode
3. Output check mode

For adjustment mode you turn off the machine, hold 0+8 and power-on. Hold 0+8 until
it beeps.
For setting mode you do the same procedure except you hold the 0+5 and power-on.
For output check you do 0+4 and power-on.
Anyway pay attention there are around 1000 sub programs for each mode. It will be a
lot easier, if you specify just a little more the problem you have.
Pay also attention when messing with programs, if you're not aware of the
situation. There are only numbers.
