Dear Jane Doe:

I am Nicole Mercedes, a nursing student soon graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing August
2017, with anticipation of taking my NCLEX in the month of September 2017. I am writing this letter because
of my interest in your new RN I oncology nursing position on the 5 th floor at Moffit Cancer Center. I feel that I
am a great fit for this position as I notice that you are looking for someone who values respect, collaboration,
encouragement and attentive reassurance when providing care for patients; all of which are values I try to
uphold to the best of my ability in my practice as a nursing student.

In my last semester of nursing school, Ive completed 180 hours on a medical-surgical unit caring for 5-6
patients a shift, with an incredible preceptor. This extensive preceptorship provided me with the opportunity to;
practice time management skills, to participate in interdisciplinary-patient centered care, and to apply critical
nursing judgment in situations of prioritization and patient needs. I had the opportunity to work with a wide
variety of patient populations, with varying diagnoses, varying perspectives and personalities and Ive found
confirmation during my preceptorship that I am made for a career in the nursing field. I have the compassion,
the empathy, attention to detail and safety that I feel is required to provide high quality nursing care. Most
importantly, I have the desire and drive to continue learning, which I know is something that I will have to
keep up as I advance in my ever-growing profession as an RN.

I would love the opportunity to be part of your residency program because I see the chance to continue
growing as a new nurse in the supportive environment of encouragement, mutual problem-solving, and respect
that you offer. I also feel that I would be able to contribute to the Moffitt culture with my compassion, my
hope, and my desire to continue learning and to educate.
