SHIELA A. AREVALO
DECEMBER, 2016
BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

Shiela A. Arevalo is the second daughter of Perseverando and Estela Arevalo. She

has an elder sister named Maria Kristine and a younger brother named Mark Jonas.

Shiela was born in Naga City, Bicol on February 22, 1996. She is currently 20 years old

and now in her 4th year in college.

Both of her parents came from the province of Bicol. They only decided to

transfer to Cavite when she was only one year old. Her parents claim that life in Bicol

was a lot difficult compared to Cavite because job offers there are too few and if there

are, such offers have low income. Her parents both believe that they would not be able to

provide for the basic needs and education of their children if they would not push their

luck in another city.

When they reached Imus, Cavite, her father initially worked as a cook for the

parish priest. He was not allowed to bring anyone with him since he was a stay-in worker,

so, he decided to hide his family on the unit he was staying. However, since their family

is growing, it became almost impossible to keep on hiding so he decided to tell the truth

to one of the parish priest and asked him to let them stay with him on the vacant storage

room, promising to rent for it. The priest immediately understood their situation and let

them use the room for free.

Shiela studied in Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic School from nursery to 4 th year

high school. It was the school that was founded by the same church they were staying at,

and aside from that, her mother started to work there as a janitress so she and her siblings

got discounts from it.

iii
When she was about 3 years old, her family moved to their newly established

home in Bacoor, Cavite and spent most of her childhood there. She became one of the so-

called laking-kalye because she and her friends were almost always outside playing

piko, tumbang preso, bang-sak and many other street games that are starting to

deteriorate in the new generation.

Shiela was never an achiever during her elementary years. She was already happy

and satisfied about her grades as long as it does not have 74 and below in it. She was

never competitive and rarely joins any curricular activity, unless it was required by the

teacher. She was not entirely a shy kid. In fact, she had friends and was never left alone

all by herself. However, she had developed introversion and passivity throughout her

school years and the reason why is still a mystery to her.

However, when she was in grade five, she was inspired by her English teacher to

seek for knowledge. Eventually, she learned to love learning and realized that there are a

lot more out there to learn and most importantly she realized how fun it could be.

Because of that, she started to become part of the top pupils, usually in 7 th place.

Shiela graduated in elementary and high school as part of the outstanding pupils.

She also got the third highest rank in Citizenship Advancement Training and received a

leadership medal out of it.

Shiela spent her first year of college in the De La Salle University Dasmarinas as

an AB Psychology major. However, due to financial reasons, her parents decided to

transfer her in a University with less tuition fees, which is the Cavite State University.

Currently, Shiela is in her 4th and last year in Bachelors degree of Bachelor of Science in

Psychology.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

All of these experiences will not be possible if not with the help of several people

who support, love and inspire me. They did not only invested money, but also their time,

understanding and whole support.

To the almighty God, I thank him for giving me the competence, wisdom,

patience, and knowledge I needed to accomplish my tasks effectively and efficiently.

Despite the many errors I committed, he continuously given me all the guidance and

strength I needed to get up every morning with a vision and purpose.

To my family, who did not fail to support me every step of the way, I thank them

for respecting my decisions, guiding me towards wisdom and financially supporting me.

You did not only help me to get in where I am right now, you practically molded me to

become a better person and made me believe in my own capability.

To the institutions that accepted me for training and immediate supervisors who

looked after me and guided me towards professionalism, my deepest gratitude for

tolerating my mistakes, acknowledging my accomplishments and introducing me to the

different fields of Psychology. Such experiences were worthwhile.

To the University instructors and OJT adviser who educated and prepared me for

a larger world, thank you for all the knowledge and discipline that you have imparted to

me. You were one of Gods instruments that assisted me to become who I am today.

INTRODUCTION

You probably know what I am thinking right now is the greatest clich that

most Psychology majors are probably tired of hearing, and contradicting. Almost

everybody thought that Psychology is about mind-reading, predicting the future,

telekinetic skills and other out of this dimensions capability. But in reality, Psychology

is a lot more than that. People who are in this field may neither be able to make a pencil

float, nor manipulate the law of Physics; but instead, they are the epitome of the helping

hands in the society, which is a lot more fascinating in this world full of self-serving

citizens.

Psychology is universal. It is not only enclosed on wearing a white scrub while

treating maladaptive and psychotic behaviors of clients. Psychology is in Science,

Forensics, Research, Sociology, Economics, Education and many other fields that require

the study of human mind and its functions. However, there are three major settings that

most universities focus on training the students.

The first one is the Educational Setting. To begin with, interns are not supposed to

teach here. They serve as members of the Guidance and Counseling Office to attend to

students who are having problems in adjusting to their environment, teachers who can no

longer handle a particular misbehavior, developing programs to help and promote

awareness to students and staffs, administering psychological tests to find out the needs

of the students and many other tasks that are specialized by the psychology majors. In

this setting, Guidance Counselors do not blatantly give advices. But rather, they help the
counselees to come up with their own decision and eventually solve their current

problems.

The second setting is the Clinical. In this field, the trainees are being given the

opportunity to observe, interact, and sometimes handle mentally challenged individuals.

There could be times when the trainees might serve as caregivers to attend to these

individuals because most of the time, clinicians do not only manage the behavior of the

residents but also help them to accomplish their everyday routines.

Lastly, there is the industrial setting. At this point, the trainees serve as one of the

human resource personnel who are responsible for recruitment, testing, interviewing,

training and eventually hiring the applicants. However, their jobs do not end there

because they are also responsible in solving conflicts among the employees, organize

team building and other activities that will promote certain virtues which will be helpful

to the performances of the employees.

Objectives:

The general objectives of the trainee is learn and understand the necessary

knowledge and skills needed in each setting and put them into practice.

Specifically, the trainee aims to:

1. Be trained on the real-life situation under the direct supervision of a professional.

2. Expand her knowledge about the actual practice that books can hardly teach.

3. Improve her skills when it comes to dealing with either normal or mentally-

challenged individuals which is essential to the nature of her field.

Time and Place of the Practicum

The trainee spent her practicum in educational setting in University of Perpetual

Help System DALTA-Molino starting from August 15, 2016 to September 15, 2016; her

clinical setting in Chosen Children Village Foundation, Inc. from October 10 to 30, 2016;

and her Industrial Setting in Alfamart Trading Philippine Inc. from November 9 to 29,

2016.

Significance of the Practicum

Books cannot teach a student everything that he/she has to know to prepare them

to the bigger world. What they needed most is the experience so that they will be able to

learn from mistakes and be introduced to the field that they will pursue in the future.

Practicum is an essential tool towards professionalism. Everybody starts from the bottom.

Everybody starts from not knowing anything. But through experience, they will learn and

eventually prevents them from being incompetent man-power of the society.

EDUCATIONAL SETTING
History of UPHSD

Dr. Antonio Laperal Tamayo, founder and his wife Dr. Daisy Moran Tamayo, co-

founder together with their friend, Ernesto Palanca Crisostomo, established on February

5, 1975 in Las Pias City the Perpetual Help College of Rizal, now the University of

Perpetual Help System DALTA Las Pias.

The first school building consisting of four floors (the present hospital) was

constructed in a remarkable record-breaking period of only four months, which ordinarily

takes one year to construct. The school building was created to house the College of

Nursing. Around 700 nursing student were enrolled and a few were referrals from the

Perpetual Help School in Manila. Perpetual was indeed on its way to becoming a premier

university south of Metro Manila.

In 1997, the Commission on Higher Education granted University status, thus the

change of name to the University of Perpetual Help.

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA is one of the subsystems

complementing the University of Perpetual Help System.

The other subsystem is the University of Perpetual Help System JONELTA.

University of Perpetual Help System JONELTA was founded and established by Dr. Jose

G. Tamayo, as its first President and Chairman of the Board, with Co-Founder, Dr.

Josefina Laperal Tamayo, as its Vice-Chairman and Treasurer. With both co-founders

now deceased, the University of Perpetual Help System JONELTA is presently led by the

first born of the founders, Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo. He is currently the Chairman of the
Board and Chief Executive Officer of UPH System JONELTA. Incidentally, he is also

the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer the UPH System DALTA.

On June 10, 2003, the helm of leadership of the University of Perpetual Help

System DALTA was transferred to, Dr. Daisy Moran Tamayo as Second President.

Complementing the leadership and management functions of Dr. Antonio L.

Tamayo and Dr. Daisy M. Tamayo are their two sons, Anthony Jose and Richard Antonio

who are both outstanding cum laude graduates of the University of the Philippines.

Anthony Jose M. Tamayo assumed presidency of the UPHSD campuses on

January 2010. He is a Certified Public Accountant, MBA degree holder from Kellogg

School of Management, Northwestern University and MA in Education degree holder

from Harvard University. .

In subsequent years, the UPHSD established two branches as well as several agri-

businesses which later incorporated into the DALTA Group of companies. The units of

DALTA Group are located in Las Pinas City; Molino, Cavite; and Calamba City in

Laguna. It also has a Medical Center in Las Pias City.

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA subscribes to the institutional

philosophy that national development and transformation is predicated upon the quality

of education of its people. It is committed to the ideas of teaching, community service

and research, with Character Building is Nation Building as its guiding principle. It is

continuing in its efforts to achieve its objective of maintaining and sustaining excellence

in education. It has instituted an extensive network of national and international linkages

in Higher Education and Business. It has established its indelible Perpetualite identity as

it steadfastly enshrines its Perpetualite values and aspirations.

Mission

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA is dedicated to the

development of the Filipino as a leader. It aims to graduate dynamic students who are

physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually committed to the achievement of the

highest quality of life.

As a system of service in health and in education, it is dedicated to the formation

of Christian service and research-oriented professionals, leaders and citizens with great

social concern and commitment to the delivery of quality education and health care.

It shall produce Perpetualites as Helpers of God- a vital ingredient to nation

building.

Vision

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA shall emerge as a premier

University in the Philippines. It shall provide a venue for a pursuit of excellence in

academics, technology and research through community partnership.

The University takes the role of a catalyst for human development. It shall

inculcate Christian values Catholic in doctrine, as a way of strengthening the moral

fiber of the Filipino a people who are Helpers of God, proud of their race and

prepared for exemplary global participation in the arts, sciences, humanities, and

business.

It foresees the Filipino people enjoying a quality of life in abundance, living in

peace, and building a nation that the next generation will nourish, cherish and value.
Duties and Responsibilities

The main duty of the trainee is to assist the guidance counselor in providing

individual sessions for students, familiarize oneself on the Psychological Tests available

for the students of junior high school, administer assessment interviews before counseling

intake sessions and helping in the administrative and clerical functions of the guidance

office.

Problems Encountered

There is no such thing as perfect institution. As some point of time, there will

always be issues, inevitable malfunctioning of resources, conflicts among employees and

even among departments. But at the end of the day, whats important is how these people

deal with it and how efficiently they do their job regardless of what they are currently

facing.

The trainee has always been not too good in direction. Since childhood, she is

easy to get lost and it is hard for her to familiarize to her surrounds. The trainee faced the

same dilemma in this setting because she finds a hard time of looking and memorizing

different departments.

On the other hand, the trainee faced problems regarding the missing files. She has

the tendency to forget what she just recently did so there were times that she could not

answer her supervisor of where it this and that.

Furthermore, the guidance office, just like what have been mentioned earlier, is

not perfect. There are certain members of the team that have issues with each other
because of their personal differences. Even the trainees experienced this firsthand and

actually see this person as the spice to the guidance office

Another mistake that the trainee commit was when she misplaced the colored

cards that her supervisor uses in administering the color test. She did not remember

whether she left it at home or misplaced it in some other parts of the office. Later that

day, she found it at home, half-eaten by her dog.

And lastly, the trainees were scolded by an older professor for not wearing an ID.

They have not been issued with an ID that time, yet so they initially thought that it was

okay. They learned it the hard way when this professor wrote a letter to their supervisor

about the incident.

Solutions

The first thing that the trainee does after a mistake is compensation. Apologies are

one thing, but trying to make up with the things that you have done, sincerely is another.

Therefore, when she lost the colored cards, she immediately printed out those colors on a

sticker paper and the result looks exactly, or better, than the original. She has been

commended by her supervisor for it.

Whenever she get lost around the campus, she does not get embarrassed of asking

strangers where is which. Through, she was able to deliver errand without being told

twice.

Lastly, after the ID incident, she and her other co-trainees started to wear their

very own ID in Cvsu Imus to avoid future scolding from other professors.
Insights

Mistakes are the best teachers. Yes, it is embarrassing to look like a fool over the

things that you did. But those things are worthwhile experiences because it helps you to

learn from and eventually avoid these from repeating in the future.

Recommendations

Being a part of the institution is one of the meaningful experiences in the trainees

life. First is because this is her very first work experience and she was glad for choosing

it as her training grounds.

All the GCO personnel are doing a job well done, however, it will be more

effective if the institution hire more guidance personnel because their job is not a joke.

The institution has an ideal goal of having a monthly project from the office, but it is next

to impossible because organizing one takes their entire time and energy and an additional

man-power would be absolutely appreciated.

CLINICAL SETTING
History of CCV

Chosen Children Village is a unique concept in the care of disabled children. The

village was founded by Maria Angeles Lita Peypoch Fullerton in 1989. Her vision

focused on a home environment in caring for physically and mentally challenged children

within a family setting. The traditional institutional setting was something that she felt

was not beneficial to the growth and development of such special children with

demanding needs.

The Chosen Children Village concept came about after the Las Pias facility of

Chosen Children Inc. was unable to cope with the volume of children needing a home

and a family. Located in the cool, clean air of Silang, the 4-hectare parcel of land now

houses 11 cottages, chapel, school, administration clinic and physical therapy centers.

The central focus is a spacious, multi-purpose play area where the children fill the air

with laughter and squeals of delight.

There is a continuing need to finance this Village so that many more children will

be able to thrive in a home environment. The Chosen Children Village is a non-profit

organization that relies on donations in the form of child sponsorships or donations for

building construction, maintenance and repair. Without help from the general public and

corporations, CCV could not sustain this level of care and education.

Lita Fullerton's philosophy states that each and every one of these children

deserves to be cared for by people who will love them with a mother's instinct. At Chosen

Children, this happens, and she wants it to continue.

The key to every successful society is education. This fact is well recognized at

Chosen Children, where education comes in all forms and the needs of each child is
acknowledged. The school provides an environment in which the children are being

given pre-vocational training. Education also comes in the shape of helping in the home.

Some of the highly functional children are allocated special chores, like cleaning up after

meals or putting away toys. These all help to create a sense of belonging. The eventual

aim allows the children, as far as possible, to develop those wings of independence for

the rest of their lives.

Physical therapy is another integral part of the children's education and journey

towards independence. The physical therapy center will be the largest in the country with

an aqua-therapy center and special equipment to suit all the needs of the children. For

children with lower functional ability, freedom of movement is perhaps their wings to

independence. The physical therapists working at CCV show more than a professional

interest in the children's development and progress. The staff and children feel a sense of

satisfaction when any task is successfully completed.

The combination of these roots and wings is what makes a visit to the Village a

must. Without this marriage of security and freedom, the atmosphere and success of the

Village could not exist. For as long as these children need our help, we need YOUR

HELP in keeping the Chosen Children Village successful

Mission

To nurture, educate, train and provide opportunities to physically, mentally and

socially challenged children to receive love, care, protection in a happy, therapeutic and

non-rejecting environment through residential child care and to promote an accessible

home-like environment that will enable them to focus on disability prevention,

rehabilitation and equalization of rights in order to grow in a community that will

enhance their self-esteem and capability.

Vision

The Christ-centered village of children that envisioned to ultimately become

independent and self-reliant despite their disabilities and be able to attain a more

meaningful, productive and satisfying way of LIFE.

Duties and Responsibilities

Chosen Children Village Foundation, Inc. aspires to provide a permanent home

for abandoned, neglected and surrendered children who are mentally and physically

challenged. It also aims to provide a training ground for the growing children under its

care to maximize their potentials and help them become productive and self-reliant

members of the society despite their disabilities and limitations.

The trainee is expected to have a direct contact to clients, provide psychological

assessment, consult staffs concerning client needs, provide psychological therapy

services to children and general data encoding.

Problems Encountered

During the stay of the trainee, the caregivers of the foundation do not expect them

to help with the physical care of the children. Therefore, there was nothing left to do after

meals but to look after them or play with them. There are instances that there really is no

one to play with since they are either sleeping or doing their respective tasks. Because of
this, the trainees developed the tendency to over break. This habit got to the nerves of the

caregivers and eventually asked them why they keep on doing it.

Furthermore the trainee noticed something disturbing. Most of the girls in CCV

are almost teens. It means that the girls are developing physical changes that are normal

to their body. One of these is the menstruation. Girls that have the cycle active are given

pads to absorb the fluid. However, their genitalias are only being washed every morning

during their bath. It is a common knowledge that the fluid from the monthly cycle is

sticky are could give a feeling of discomfort to the person. It could also be one of the

reason why some of the residents are constantly reaching and touching their private parts

because of the itch feelings.

Solutions

The trainees became more watchful of their attitudes and punctuality to avoid the

reproach of the caregivers. However, despite this change of attitude, the feelings of

irritation lingers to some of the caregivers and when they came back for the certification,

they were advice not to roam around the residential at all.

Insights

The trainee realized how fast the day is in Chosen Children Village. The residents

eat thrice a day without snacks in between. They eat their dinner at 4 pm and then wait

when it is already time for bed. For the trainees perspective, it was a little depressing if

she were to be put on their situation given the fact that she grew on a conventional

society where it is complex, difficult but fun. But then again, these people in the village
are mentally challenged. Most of them are not entirely fit for that society she grew up in

and it will be a real challenge it they try to blend. The village is definitely a haven for

these children and the trainee felt blessed for having the opportunity to be part of these

childrens lives even for a short peiod of time.

Recommendation

The trainee suggests of hiring their very own psychiatrist/psychologist in the

foundation. It has come to her attention that the only professional that is looking after the

physical health of the children are actually a medical doctor. The trainee does not

underestimate his capability and competence when it comes to treating and managing the

children, however, it is undeniable that psychologists are more knowledgeable about the

mental well-being, given the fact that they are having a growing number of children with

psychotic features. It is definitely recommended to intervene immediately with the help

of someone more hands-on to the needs of the children.

INDUSTRIAL SETTING
History of Alfamart

Established in 1989 by Djoko Susanto and family as a consumer goods trader and

distributor, Alfamart entered the retail sector at the turn of the millennium. In 2002, the

company acquired 141 Alfa Minimart stores. It is now one of Indonesias leading

retailers, serving more than 2.5 million customers daily in 7,000 stores.

The local convenience store segment is on a rapid expansion mode due to increasing

disposable income of consumers.

Mall, banking and retail conglomerate SM Investments Corp. (SMIC) has started

its foray into the local convenience store segment, a sector with heating competition

given the rapid expansion of top companies and global brands.

The listed holding firm is putting up as much as four new Alfamart stores in the

southern part of Metro Manila this year on top of the existing three branches as part of

efforts to test the market, a top executive said yesterday.

As of end-June, SM Retail has opened eight new stores this year, bringing the

total to 249 stores composed of 49 SM Stores, 40 SM Supermarkets, 41 SM

Hypermarkets, 97 Savemore and 22 WalterMart branches.

The local Alfamart stores occupy around 150 square meters of floor space,

offering basic groceries, fresh chicken, medicines and food-to-go options round-the-

clock.

Tim Daniels, investor relations chief of SMIC, said there are roughly 2,500

convenience stores in the entire Philippines, which pales in comparison with Indonesias

15,000 outlets.
Mission

To satisfy customer needs and expectations by focusing on high quality products

and services.

To implement ethical business practices, to be the best in all of our actions.

To develop entrepreneurial spirits and skills in the Company and the society.

To develop a reliable, healthy and growing organization which benefits all

stakeholders.

Vision

To be the largest and globally competitive widely owned retail distribution

network that empowers small entrepreneurs and fulfills customer needs and expectations.

Duties and Responsibility

The trainee is expected to engage on direct interviews of applicants, test

administration, assistance to human resource programs, handling applicant concerns and

assists on the administrative role of the office.

Problems encountered

The trainee had a hard time answering applicant queries because she was not

hundred percent familiar to all the processes of the human resource office. Aside from

that, she found it difficult to receive requirements because of her lack of familiarity to the

forms and certificates needed to be passed.

Furthermore, she had a hard time looking for files that are supposed to be placed

on a certain cabinet because of the lack of organization when it comes to its order. Some

requirements are thought to be missing or have been accidentally shredded because of the

disorganized filing, only to find out that it has been filed in the wrong place.

Solutions

The trainee familiarized herself to the said forms mentioned on the checklist by

looking at the existing set of requirements of the employees. She also educated herself

about the differences among the positions being offered and the process of the

deployment even without the help of her supervisor. She continued to be inquisitive the

entire time and stay vibrant and nice to the applicant.

On the other hand, she and her co-trainees had the initiative to alphabetically

arrange the files inside the office and even down in the warehouse.

Insights

Industrial setting is not so hard as the trainee thought it was. Yes, it requires a lot

of effort but once a person familiarized her/himself to the process; it becomes part of

their routine.

Recommendation

The trainee suggests to the employees to become more enthusiastic to their work.

Yes, it is not a matter of suggestion because it is their personal will on how they would

do their jobs, but it is still a good influence to the output if they put some passion on it.
Aside from that, she also suggests of purchasing more cabinets for the folders and

envelopes that are scattered around the basement. These folders have to be filed properly

to prevent them from being mistaken as one of the discarded files. Doing so could also

protect the information about the employees if they are placed on a more decent place

with locks.

COUNSELING CASE NOTES

Problem:

Self-injurious behavior and socially withdrawn personality

History of the problem:

The counselee is a new student in the school. She normally spends their time

alone since she barely knows anybody. According to her, her classmates and bus service

riders are generally noisy, irritating and usually uses foul choices of words which make

her dislike them even more. Aside from that, the counselee has a self-injurious behavior

whenever shes upset or mad as her way of releasing such emotions. This alarms her

parents, who personally sought the attention of the school prefect of discipline, adviser,

teachers and guidance office for professional help because they dont know what to do

anymore with their daughters self-injurious behavior.

Personal and Social History:

The counselee is the first born daughter in their family. She has a 3-year old sister

whom she believes is hurting her intentionally. Generally, she admitted to be good in the

science subject. She likes spending her time in recreational activities such as writing

poems, reading novels (preferably with happy endings), listening to calm music and

playing guitar. Otherwise, shell rather sleep. The counselee admits of wanting to learn

how to play the piano. However, despite wanting to buy one, she also understands her

familys financial situation. Physically, she looks anxious. Her hair is messy and

scattered all over her face in an attempt to hide her face. She wears eyeglasses and has a
low-pitched voice. Otherwise, she looks hygienic for a 10-year old girl. The counselee

claims that her classmates and other bus service riders are mostly noisy and it irritates her

which makes her feels entirely lonely and eventually injures herself to displace her anger.

General Appearance:

If in DISTRESS, how does the student speak? (In

sentences/phrases/words/syllables/others)

Most of the counselees statements are undecipherable. If not for the rephrasing of

the counselor, it would be totally non understandable. Her voice has been low from the

start until the end of the session which might probably mirrors the infrequency of her

speeches outside the office. Aside from that, the student usually speaks in incomplete

sentences which leave the counselor to rephrase her statements to make it clearer.

ANXIETY (anxious face/fidgety movements/cold moist palms/others)

First impression: when the student first came inside the counseling room, she has

already been frowning. Her posture is a little awkward and her eye contact is limited

since she usually looks down.

PAIN (facial expression, fidgety movements/grimacing/protectiveness of painful part)

The counselee showed the pinches on her right arm and fresh scratches on her left

wrist and arm using only her fingernails

Plan(s):
She enumerated ways to cope with pain such as reading a book, listening to calm

music, playing guitar, learning how to play the piano and falling asleep. Aside from that,

she said that she will talk to her parents about her real problem and the best way on how

to make her happier.

Conditions after session:

She feels nicer, she is thankful, she is willing to come back tomorrow at 9:00 am

and she will eat her snacks in the office.

COUNSELING CASE NOTES

Problem:

The counselee was referred to the guidance office because of the improper use of

the internet. The teacher claims that she and her other friends used offensive words while

referring to the teacher that they dislike.

History of the problem:

The counselee and her friends have created a group chat in Facebook. Since it was

supposedly a private conversation, they freely expressed their opinions and feelings about

a certain things. One of their topics includes a sensitive and offensive name-calling to a

teacher they dislike. One of their friend in the group chat screen-captured these, leaving

her own negative statements, and sent it to their teacher, after assuming that they were

calling her a back-stabber.

Personal and Social History:

The counselee is the only child of her mother but the second of her father. Her

older sibling is now in America while the younger lives with her father. She is currently

living with her mother and grandmother. Her parents have separated when she was only 4

years old, although they were really never married. This year, she has only seen her father

thrice which leads her to yearn for fatherly affection. The counselee is having tampo

with her mother because she always gets angry when she fails to do her chores at home

and usually uses hurtful words. The counselee is aware of her faults which are primarily
due to her excessive use of the internet. The counselee also mentioned that even her

grandmother gets angry at her too and also uses hurtful words while at it.

At first look, the counselee looks properly groomed. Her hair is loose but tidy to

look upon. Her posture is good and walks upright. However, when asked, she admits of

feeling anxious upon meeting the counselor because this was her first time to be referred

in a counseling session.

General Appearance:

If in DISTRESS, how does the student speak? (In

sentences/phrases/words/syllables/others)

The students voice was generally low, but audible enough, which only matches

the counselors tone. She doesnt seem to have any difficulty in expressing her thoughts

and feelings. She generally talks politely. She willingly participates in any activity that

was asked of her. She was eager to talk about the problem and find ways to solve it. And

lastly, she was inquisitive enough when it comes to the clarification of instructions.

ANXIETY (anxious face/fidgety movements/cold moist palms/others)

There were no obvious signs of anxiety on her face and movements. Her posture

was good without any fidgeting movements and was able to maintain eye contact.

PAIN (facial expression, fidgety movements/grimacing/protectiveness of painful part)

The counselee was physically healthy. However, she admitted of having tampo

to her mother because of the hurtful words that are being thrown at her. Aside from that,
she also has guilt feelings about the current issue involving the social media use which

adds up to her emotional pain.

Plan(s):

The counselee enumerated the people whom she trusts and the ways to cope up

with her emotional pain such as reducing her internet use, trying to get her teachers

forgiveness, settle her problem with her other friend. Aside from that, she was given by

the counselor a filler-notebook to write down 50 bible verses related to words and how

powerful it can be, which they will discuss next week after the suspension.

Conditions after session:

She smiled and thanked the counselor. She is willing to come back next week

after the suspension to discuss about the bible verses she finds.

Problem:

The student was referred to the Guidance and Counseling Office due to her

improper use of the internet.

History of the problem:

Personal and Social History:

The student currently lives with her mother while her father works abroad. She

admits of having constant disagreements with her mother. Previously, a marijuana has

been found from her stuffs which alarmed her mother. Recently, she was involved in an

internet-related issue due to misuse.

General Appearance:

If in DISTRESS, how does the student speak? (In

sentences/phrases/words/syllables/others)

The students voice was audible enough to be understood. She was polite in her

words and willingly complied on the activities asked of her.

ANXIETY (anxious face/fidgety movements/cold moist palms/others)

The student generally looks at ease at first sight. There is no obvious sign of

anxiety as she was able to held herself gracefully enough. She has no considerable
mannerisms and unnecessary movements. She smiles when she speaks, although not all

the time.

PAIN (facial expression, fidgety movements/grimacing/protectiveness of painful part)

There were no considerable signs of physical pain from her. Her facial expression

was generally at ease and no grimacing was noticed on the initial assessment.

Plan(s):

The plans for the counselee are the intake interview forms, needs assessment,

administration of color test and a counseling session with the registered guidance

counselor. After that, there will be a follow-up counseling to see how she is doing and

determine if the previous session had done a considerable change on her behavior.

COLOR TEST INTERPRETATION

A.

75410632

++xx ==- -

The student demands that her ideas and emotions shall merge and blend perfectly.

She refuses to make any concessions or to accept any compromises. She is easily affected

by her environment and readily moved by the emotions of others. Aside from that, she

seeks congenial relationships and an occupation which will promote them.

However, she is willing to become emotionally involved to achieve satisfaction

from sexual activity. There are times that she gets agitated and feels helpless and unable

to control events that are subjecting her to great stress. Because of that, there is a

possibility for her to develop cardiac troublea and/or muscular spasm.

In her general psychological interpretation, she has a helpless resentment when

acutely distressed by what appears as a hostile environment. She always feels that she is

being subjected to intolerable pressure and driven against her will. She has a rebellious

and resentful attitude at what she considers as unreasonable demands on her, but

nonetheless, feels powerless to control the situation or to protect herself in any way.
B.

14536270

++xx= =- -

The student seeks for an affectionate relationship that offers fulfillment and

happiness. She is generally capable of powerful emotional enthusiasm, helpful and

willing to adapt, if necessary, to realize the bond of affection she desires. On the other

hand, she also needs the same consideration and understanding from others.

Aside from that, she normally takes easily and quickly to anything which provides

stimulation. She is usually preoccupied with things of an intensely exciting nature,

whether erotically stimulating or otherwise. She also wants to be regarded as an exciting

and interesting personality with an altogether charming and impressive influence on

other. Because of that, she uses tactics cleverly so as to avoid endangering her chances of

success or undermining others confidence in her.

However, she feels that she cannot do much about her existing problems and

difficulties no matter how she makes the best of things as they are. In addition, she is able

to achieve physical satisfaction from sexual activity since she has a pronounced

susceptibility to outside stimuli

As an overall assessment, the student wants to overcome a feeling of emptiness and

of separation from other. She believes that life still has far more to offer and that she may

miss her share of experience if she fails to make the best use of every opportunity. She

therefore pursues her objectives with a fierce intensity and deep involvement and

commits herself profoundly and readily. She usually perceives herself to be completely
competent in any field in which she engages that is why she can sometimes be considered

by others to be interfering or meddlesome.

C.

07321546

++XX== - -

The student generally feels that she has been unjustly and undeservedly treated and

betrayed in her hopes. There will be times that she will grunt and in revolt against her

existing circumstances which she considers an affront. She exercises initiative in

overcoming obstacles and difficulties, either to holds or to achieve a position of authority

in which control can be exerted over events.

Aside from that, she is egocentric and therefore quick to take offense, leaving her

rather isolated in her attachments. Most of her stress is resulting from the effort to

conceal worry and anxiety under a cloak of self-reliance and unconcerned.

Thus, the student feels lonely and uncertain as she has an unsatisfied need to ally

herself with others whose standards are as high as his own and wants to stand out from

the rank and file. Her disappointments lead to assumed indifference. This sense of

isolation magnifies the need into a compelling urge, all the more upsetting to her self-

sufficiency because of the restraint she normally imposes to herself. Since she wants to

demonstrate the unique quality of her own character, she tries to suppress this need for

others and affects an attitude of unconcerned self-reliance and conceals her fears of
inadequacy, treating those who criticize her behavior with contempt. However, beneath

this assumption of indifference, she really longs for approval and esteem of others.

EDUCATIONAL SETTING

August 15, 2016

This was the first day of the trainees internship in the educational setting. Classes

were suspended, that is why the trainee was not sure if she must go to the office or not.

Nonetheless, she went there, not minding the possibility that the office might be closed as

well because if it is not, she does not want to create a negative impression for being

absent on her first day.

She started her duty by greeting the guidance counselors and associates Good

Morning as she introduced herself. The head of the guidance office introduced her to the

current situation of the schools guidance services including the ratio of student-

counselor, which they strictly follow. The GCO head also expressed her expectations

from the trainee as well as the major requirements she has to fulfill.

The first task that was given to her by her immediate supervisor was studying and

summarizing five Psychological manuals such as Otis-Lennon School Ability Tests 8th

edition (OLSAT 8), Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Instrument (MBTI), Study Attitude and

Methods Survey (SAMS), Career Occupational Preference System Inventory Test

(COPS), and Tennesee Self-Concept Scale (TSCS). These were quite tasky so it took her

until 2 in the afternoon to finish. After that, the trainee covered the logbook for out

coming/incoming memos and Psychological tests inventories and transferred current

inventories of the said manuals. And lastly, the trainee helped in reproducing guidance

modules that will be distributed to all high school advisers for tomorrows advisers

meeting with the GCO.

Summarizing the five manuals was quite tiring. The trainee had been exposed to

different kinds of scales and tests throughout her college years but the scoring and

interpretation part remain difficult for her. The trainee found it easier to explain each

test/inventory in her own words by simply looking and studying the actual test, than

reading the entire manual. Because of that, she managed to create a one-page summary

for each of the manuals which all came mostly from a hundred-paged manual, or should

she say, book.

Another thing that the trainee found difficult was the photocopying of the

guidance modules because she has never touched and operated a Xerox machine before.

The guidance associate she was with taught her how to do so, but when she let her do it,

she managed to ruin 6 pages of it. However, she did it correctly afterwards after putting

the bond papers properly.

Furthermore, the trainee has been anxious upon meeting her supervisors. She was

afraid to make mistakes, given the fact that she was the only intern that came that day.

However, she realized that it is okay to be nervous and most of all, to commit mistakes

because that is how a person learns. After all, everybody starts from the bottom just like

her, wherein most of what they know are book terminologies that are not at all handy on

the actual practicum.

August 17, 2016

The trainee was not so nervous this time because the other interns have come,

who are all from the same university she was currently enrolled. Today, she was asked to

copy and transfer the Systems Flowchart for Case Referrals on a single sheet of paper
because it was divided into three pages making it more complicated for the counselor to

look at. After that, she had the letters for Entrance Scholarship Discount signed by the

respective office heads so that it could be delivered immediately to the main campus in

Las Pias. However, the secretary attached a note saying that the School Accountant has

been changed because the previous accountant is on leave. So, all the files and signatures

will be put in vain if they repeat the whole procedure just because of a single change of

name, which was not bothered to be informed to the GCO in the first place.

Finding the offices for the signing was like a maze because the trainee was not

familiar to the schools facilities yet and she has not been given the opportunity to be

toured around the university due to time constrictions. So in order to do the task

efficiently, the trainee asked the people she met in the hallway about where is which. The

trainee admits that she has never been good at direction. She easily forgets places she has

been thats why is has become a good opportunity for her to train herself to be more alert

and mindful of her surroundings.

After visiting the different offices, she then encoded the summarized

psychological manuals that she did on her first day of internship. She was asked to bring

her laptop, which she willingly did. At around 2 in the afternoon, the trainee helped in

facilitating the advisers meeting about the guidance modules that will be introduced by

the trainees immediate supervisor.

Facilitating the advisers meeting was initially alright. However, the trainee

wrongly distributed some of the modules to the advisers because although she was

instructed that it has grade and section on it, she didnt notice that others are placed on

the middle part of the pages so she assumed that it could be given to anybody. She
realized that something was amiss when one of the advisers asked why his modules were

too few. The trainee hesitated whether to tell her supervisor her error for the fear of

embarrassment. Nonetheless, she went in front, told her supervisor the truth, and said

sorry to the advisers.

Frankly, it was not as embarrassing as she thought it would be because the

advisers didnt mind as long as the right modules were given to them, although one of

them was smirking. Her supervisor, on the other hand, was very understanding and just

smiles it off.

The trainee learned the value of inquisitiveness. She should have asked for

clarification instead of assuming and following her gut feelings. But most of all, she

relearned the value of humility. Admitting to mistakes and apologizing in front of the

crowd is a virtue that not everybody is ready to do. Therefore, such experience was

worthwhile because it makes her realize that there will always be a room for

improvement.

August 18, 2016

The trainee has been getting comfortable with her surroundings. Whenever she

arrives in the morning, she greets everyone with a friendly smile. Some students, mostly

junior high schools, are even greeting her whenever they meet her in the hallway. This

gives her a good feeling because to her, it signifies respect. Aside from that, this gesture

serves as a reminder that this is her, getting ready for professionalism.

The trainee was used on talking with her friends on a loud voice and laughing

hysterically without minding who hears her. This is not particularly a wrong behavior,
but because students are seeing her in formal attire, depicting as a member of the

administration, it is only proper to act accordingly to set examples to them. Because of

that, the trainee was learning to choose proper choices of words around the students and

behaving like an actual member of the guidance office.

The first thing that she did this day was transferring to the Manila paper the

Systems Flowchart for Case Referral that the GCO head has edited in the past days. This

will be used for tomorrows meeting with the other associates. After that, she resumed

into the signing of the letter for entrance scholarship discount. But before that, the

counselor decided to just print the name of the new accountant and paste it over the

previous one to save them from repeating whole process.

After the manual editing of letters, the trainee went back to the SDO for the

signature but she left it in the School Directors Office instead because the schools

director was not around at that time.

When she came back to the office, she was asked to sort out the CEM Test

Results from grade 8 to junior high school students depending on their current sections.

Those results were from the last academic year.

At first, she finds it difficult to do the sorting because each level has six sections.

She was slow on doing the task at first thats why one of her co-intern asked her to switch

their task. They eventually switch back to their original task and as she started to

familiarize herself to the names, it becomes easier and automatic.

Due to time constraints, she wasnt able to finish the task. But since the hour is

too few to finish it but too long to wait around until 5 o clock arrives, she decided to help

her co-interns to make paper flowers for the Guidance Consciousness Week.
At first, she was questioning why her co-interns have to do the task of create

paper flowers. She initially believed that it was not related to their supposed job

description. However, she eventually realized that the guidance program, despite the

ingenious theories that support it, will be nothing if the students do not find it enticing.

Therefore, these paper flowers and other decorations could help to lure them into

participating into this.

August 19, 2016

Today, the trainee resumed on sorting out the students CEM Test Results. It took

her entire morning to finish the task. When she was done at around 3 in the afternoon, her

immediate supervisor commended her about doing her tasks efficiently because it took

five people to do it last academic year.

After this, she started sorting out the NCAE Test Results of the same students

depending on their grade level and section.

No other tasks had been given to her because those test results consumed most of

her day. She did not find any difficulty or problem while doing this since she has become

used on doing this despite the short period of time of being exposed to it. When one of

her co-interns offered help, she was reluctant to accept it because she is more efficient

when working alone. However, due to her insistence, she eventually accepted the help.

The trainee was not declining help because she was proud. But rather, she is

naturally an introvert person who is more productive when working alone. Nevertheless,

she found out that working collaboratively makes the task easier and more fun. She
realized that she should not restrict herself from doing things differently just because she

is not used on doing so, or her personality says that she is exclusively an introvert.

August 24, 2016

Sorting out the NCAE test results was not entirely accomplished on her last duty,

so, she resumed on doing this task even without the direct order of her supervisor who

was not around at that time.

When she is done on this task, she helped her co-intern to sort out the envelopes

and separate them between active and non-active students. When she and her co-intern

were free and nothing else to do, one of the guidance associates asked them to find the

adviser of the referred student for counseling to schedule the session. They also

reproduced referral slips for future use and cut them accordingly.

The other guidance associate was organizing a guidance orientation to college

students, administrators, faculty and staffs which will be held the next day. So, she asked

the trainee to help in the preparation by: having the certificate signed by the persons

involved, cut materials out for the program, purchase the tarpaulin from the printing shop,

ask for form for the validation of the tarpaulin, arrange the chairs, work out on the

memorabilia (fans), and borrow projector from the properties department

However, certain misunderstanding has occurred. As it turns out, the gym is not

yet available for stage preparation because there were varsity players who are still

practicing volleyball. The event coordinator was frustrated because the program will be

held the next day and it would not hurt the coach much if he give way since there will be

no volleyball game for the next few weeks. The intern observed that the counselor, who
is also the event coordinator, was fuming inside thats why when she was accidentally hit

by the volleyball, she stares hard at them to point of looking like she wanted to hit

something. Good thing, she managed to control her temper.

Because of that, this entire program preparation has taught the trainee one thing,

and that is to remember that in any situation, there will always be a shortcoming and that

she should be prepared for alternatives in case things do not happen smoothly.

August 25, 2016

The guidance orientation that was organized yesterday will be held today. They

trainee helps in facilitating the event by rearranging the chairs accordingly, ushering the

incoming audiences, buying prizes for them game and clicking photos for

documentations.

After the event, the trainee went to SM Molino to claim the foods for the guidance

personnel. After lunch, she brought the projector back to the properties department.

At around 2 pm, she and her supervisor visited a grade 1 student whom the

counselor has been counseling for the past month. The trainee notices considerable

changes on the student who had been involved to different fights and issues in the past

month based on his case history. The counselor said that the student is about to be

terminated after a few more procedures

After that, the trainee observed a counseling session of a student with self-

injurious behavior. She wrote down all her observations to the child on a counseling case

notes provided by her supervisor and interpret the result of the color test that was

administered to the student.

The student was evidently distraught due to her current situation. As it turns out,

the student is very quiet and prefers to be alone most of the time. However, her parents

see this in a negative way leading them to urge their daughter to socialize more. Little did

they know, this is what causes the child distress because she feels like they are pressuring

her from acquiring friends regardless if she likes it or not.

Because of this, the intern realized that not everyone is aware that introversion is

not a bad thing. The parents failed to realize that the childs nature is direct her energy

inwardly and still nothing is wrong with that. There several people who thinks that a jolly

and friendly child is equivalent to a happy and content disposition and do not see that

there are circumstances that being alone and independent has its own kind of strength and

happiness.

Aside from that, despite the modernization of the society, mental health is still a

virtual concept. People tend to neglect the fact that children are fragile individuals and

they need attention more than anyone. They do not only need physical care but also

psychological well-being to form them into assertive and productive individuals in the

future.

August 26, 2016

The trainee was asked to arrange case histories on a single file alphabetically.

After that, she observed another counseling session and administration of tests to a grade

10 student who has been involved in an social networking site use-related issue. The

trainee wrote all her observations on a counseling case notes and interpret the result of

the color test that was administered to the student.

The second counseling observation lead the trainee to assume that most of the

cases of the students, despite taking place at the school, always leads to family-related

reasons. A family is the basic unit of society. It is where young individuals starts to learn.

Without a proper guidance from parents or guardian, students are more likely to develop

behavioral problem that they could bring along with them in other institution they are at

particularly, the school.

When she went back to the conference room, was asked to find envelopes of

certain students to pull out their school cards and NSO birth certificate, requested by the

registrars office.

The trainees immediate supervisor has another counseling session to another

student that is also involved on the same issue mentioned earlier. However, the counselor

spare the trainee from observing the session, but asked her instead to administer the color

test, needs analysis and personal data form of the student.

Aside from that, the trainee administered the color test to some of the guidance

associates and co-interns which will be compiled to determine the two groups

similarities in personality. The trainee started to encode all the counseling case notes she

had done on the past day and the interpretation of the color test results.

Today, the trainee realized that she should be more curious and inquisitive to

certain things instead of directly accepting information without any queries. Prior to the

interpretation of color test, the trainee initially interpreted it incorrectly. The good thing

is, this was only her colleagues result and not the actual results of the counselees.
August 31, 2016

Today, the trainee had letters for Entrance Scholarship Discount signed by the

respective offices for the third time because of certain anomaly that happened. This letter

has started being singed by different departments for the last fifteen days but still

unaccomplished. The trainees immediate supervisor is starting get agitated because some

offices will randomly change something on the letter without informing the GCO which

further prolongs the supposed easy task.

Coordination between departments inside the institution is relevant to generate a

more productive and efficient work force. Without this, certain members of the

institutions will be confused that will definitely cause mistakes and will bring them into a

complicated situation. Coordination is an essential ingredient to test how unified the

employees are which reflects the capability of the entire administration to work out with

their indifferences.

On the other hand, the trainee also administered the initial assessment, needs

analysis and color test to a counselee. She sorted out Graduate Exit Interview Forms of

students who dropped out this school year. At this point, the trainee is starting to get

tired of the endless papers to be sort out. She actually started to rant how boring her tasks

are. Because of that, one of her co-intern offered to switch tasks for a moment so that

both of them will take rest from the usual tasks that they are doing. However, the trainee

failed to remind her co-intern that the exit forms are sorted depending of the year the

students left, leading her co-intern to combined every paper and sort them alphabetically.

Good thing that there are years written on each paper sparing the trainee the wrath of her

adviser.
Nevertheless, the supposed 30-minute task has been doubled due to her vague

instruction and letting another person do her own task. Because of that, she learned the

significance of clear communication. Everybody has their own way of interpreting things

and most of the times, two people has two different perspective that is why concrete and

specific instruction must be given to any member of the institution to avoid confusion,

wrong assumption and eventually incorrect outcome.

Lastly, the intern recycled envelopes by editing the names over it to be used for

other active students. Not because the office gets free supplies from the institution

doesnt mean that they can waste any possible reusable item inside. The should learn to

become industrious to serve as an example to the future professionals (interns) and of

course, to decrease the departments expenses that could be use to more important things.

After that, she turned over CEM Test Results to the HRD and HS faculty since they no

longer belong under the elementary level.

September 1, 2016

Due to overlapping tasks, the trainee could not do everything at once and decided

to bring them at home. She borrowed the color test from her supervisor yesterday to

accomplish the interpretation of results. However, she misplaced the three colors such as

blue, green and gray, which are essential to the adiministrationof the color test. The

trainee looked for it around the officehoping that they only somehow slipped her hands.

No luck, though.

Therefore, she decided to replace the colored cards for color test by searching for

the colors online and printing them. She had to spend 75 pesos only for those three colors
because she must make sure that they are of high quality. That time, she has feeling so

down because she spent her entire morning making up for the mistake she has done. She

saw the disappointment from her supervisors expression because she has other tasks to

be done that time. As it turns out, the three colors looks more vibrant compared to the

remaining old colors, which could cause bias when administered to the students. So, she

had to replace the entire set of colors to make them similar in shade. At the end of that,

her supervisor managed to commend her for replacing the old ones and says that her

mistake paved way to replace those old ones.

The trainee felt good after hearing what the supervisor said. Not because she

believed it was true but because rather, she could feel the effort of her supervisor to boost

her confidence despite the problem that she has just faced. She realized that a mistake is a

mistake. Once it is done, there is no coming back. So, what is left is to have courage to

face it whole heartedly, accept the criticisms and use your every will power to make up

for this and eventually become better and wiser.

September 2, 2016

The trainee spent her entire day sorting out grade school CEM test results and

babysat a grade 4 student. This student, although a Filipino, grew up in USA. His entire

family has only transferred back in the Philippines last June. The student is having a hard

time to cope up with his new environment that is why there is the guidance counselor to

help him do so.

However, based on the trainees personal experience, the kid is not really shy.

Actually, he was talkative and friendly. He gets hyper as well even when playing alone.
Aside from that, he was also being visited by his other classmates insdie the office to talk

to him. Overall, the trainee did not see any significant reason why the child has to be

referred in the GCO. She never had a chance to know since she wasnt able to handle the

case any further.

But what she learned after the series of observations that she has had before is that

a child may either look distressed or not during a problematic period that is why certain

issues are being overlooked because elders failed to notice the childrens needs. Not

because a child seems happy does not mean that they really are and it takes a really

concerned individual to notice the difference.

September 7, 2016

Today, the trainee sorted out the grade 7 envelope files and turned it over to the

YLC office. She also printed labels of the locks and keys for the grades 8-10 and SHS

cabinet files to limit out the people who are getting access to the files. On her entire

experience in the office, missing files has been a normal scenario. So instead of tiring

themselves to look for them, they would rather create new ones. However, there are times

that a parent would randomly come into the office to claim the file they have requested a

month before and this is where problems occurs. First, because they could not replicate it

at once because it will be a long process, which could waste the time of the parent who

has come a long way just to claim it.

Because, locking the cabinets has been a goot idea because people who get o open

the cabinet has to sign on the log book to monitor the in and out of the files. However,

this simple change has taken a lot of getting used to. To some emplyoees, it seems like a
hassle because they hve to approach the handler of the keys first before getting a single

item they need. However, the trainee believes that a little effort would be healthy if it

means lessening the disappearance of the files.

September 8, 2016

This week is the GCOs consciousness week that promotes happiness to every

member of the institution. The trainee was askef to take photos of smiling people, either

student or employee, for the documentation that will be presented on the opening of the

Happiness program.

The trainee found it hard to take pcitures of random people around the university

because her supervisor specifically asked her to take candid photos, which means shell

have to act like a spy on a dangerous mission just to subtly take the smiling faces of the

people around. There were times when people caught her doing so and just frown

afterwards. Maybe they were thinking that she was being a troll or something. This

activity, although seems simple, has became challenging considering the fact the she is a

new face in the university and would really be uncomfortable for her subjects to be taken

of pictures without their permission.

The intern spent her morning taking pictures and decided to take rest for a while

so people will not wonder why she keeps on roaming around like a total spy. She began

putting the padlocks which she has previously labeled, to cabinets and segregates the

keys. She put labels on them pertaining the non active and enrolled students. After that,

she recycled envelopes by putting bond paper above the name of the previous owners.

Aside from that, she also helped in putting the terms of confidentiality on the respective
envelopes of the students and eventually turned over the grades 8, 9, and 10 envelope

files to the counselors who are supposed to keep them.

September 9, 2016

Since the trainees supervisor taught her how to interpreted the color test, she

started to interpret each test results of the counselees since then. Doing so have been

easier to her since she is starting to familiarize herself on the procedures. At the

beginning, she administered it wrongly but now, it seems like the easiest task to handle.

She trainee have learned a lot from the past days of duties and she knows that she will

learn a lot more if she maintains her persistence.

After that, she encoded and printed out the philosophy, vision and mission of

UPHSD for the personal copy of her supervisor. Her immediate supervisor admits of

easily forgetting those and she would like to have a handy copy whenever they recite it

during the flag ceremony. From the first day of duty, the trainee already saw the air of

passion of her supervisor to the work she is doing, and everyday, she never fail to show it

to everyone obliviously. Her motivation and enthusiasm serves as an inspiration to the

trainee to do better and refrain from disappointing her supervisor because she knows that

a little mistake from her part, altought inevitable, could affect the actual work of the

people around her, especially her supervisor.

After lunch, she and her co-trainee distributed happy jars to different departmenrts

of the university as a GCO project. Basically, each jar consists of blank colored papers

which will filled by the employees with their answers to the question What makes you

smile today? This project promotes awareness to the importance of a simple smile and
its capability to trigger happiness from inside. At first, the trainee was shy to distribute

because with all honesty, the tasks she is asking the employees to do is quite corny.

However, during the distribution, she realized that the success of a project lies on how

much you believe on its relevance. Because of that, she felt ashamed of herself because

of her initial mentality. But after seeing the reactions of the employees, which are a

combination of wonder and amazement, she found out that sometimes, it does not matter

how other people perceives you to be. Most of the time, its the feeling that you bring

them that matters.

September 14, 2016

Photo copying is one of the most disliked takes of the trainee. It is because she

tend to do it incorrectly which usually leads to either the original copy being ruined by

the machine, or not copying anything at all. Aside from that, her supervisor only give her

exact numbers of papers for the required copies which gives her no room for any mistake.

However, the task is inevitable so she reproduced document files to be distributed to

different offices. So far, she did it correctly except the fact that one of the copies is a little

misadjusted but her supervisor does not mind at all.

Next, she went to the classrooms to collect the thank you jars. After that, the

entire GCO team count the number of thank you letters and hunt down the students who

got the most number of letters to take their pictures.

After that, she retrieved the happiness boxes from different classrooms that has

been initially distributed to be filled with what makes them smile statements. Some of the
employees looked disappointed when it was taken away. Probably because the jars

looked stunning and they wanted to keep it.

And lastly, the trainee covered the output of candidates of poster making contest

for tomorrows evaluation.

September 15, 2016

Since it is the week for the preparation of the upcoming happiness program, the

trainee is expected to help in different administrative and clerical tasks involving letter

signing and cutting out materials for program and planning the schedule for

consciousness week. The trainee learned to make paper flowers since it is basically the

most frequent task of the trainees.

Aside from that, she posted notification around school facilities regarding the new

college gCO. As it turns out, the university decided to segregate guidance office of

college to high school, probably to give each student more attention.

Lastly, she had names of mapeh teachers listed among the ones who will be given

certificates and seek for e signature of grade school principal and schools director
CLINICAL SETTING

October 10, 2016

Today is the trainees first day in Chosen Children village. It is 2-hour drive away

from her home so she had to wake up at 3 am, prepare for an hour and travel. The

residents of the village begin their day at 6 am so the trainee had to be there before or

exactly that time.

The trainee is with her two other classmates. However, since the village is

composed of 11 cottages from which 9 of them are inhabited by residents, the

institutional doctor assigned them to different cottages. The trainee is assigned in cottage

one. Toddlers.

The trainee has no any idea of what to expect in an institution like this. When she

opened the door, she was welcomed by the hungry faces of toddlers sitting on their

respective chairs around the dining table, waiting for their breakfast. The trainee thought

that all the residents in this village are psychologically challenged so she asked the

caregiver what their respective cases are. What she failed to realize is that it was also an

orphanage so basically, most of the toddlers are physically and mentally fit to be adopted.

The question now is what is expected from her to be doing and in just a few minutes, she

found out.

As is turns out, majority of her tasks for today are mostly caregiving and basic

care for the children. The trainee was more than happy to comply, despite the fact that it

was not what she expected, since she has a soft spot for children.
Her first task is to feed the toddlers. She was assigned to feed two of them who sat

side by side. During the feeding, the trainee observed that some of the toddlers cry when

not fed immediately or subsequently. If the caregiver failed to do so, they will throw

tantrums. However, the mama of the cottage (all caregivers are addressed as mama or

papa) applied operant conditioning to the toddlers who are old enough to understand. She

will give extra chips and desert to kids who finish their food without throwing tantrums

and telling the others the term not nice whenever they do something bad.

After breakfast, the children will given a bath, change diaper, and put them to the

living room for some play time. The cottage is designed like a regular home to give the

children, despite from an early age, the impression of belongingness and psychologically

speaking, that is initially taken from their respective homes.

The rest of the day revolve around feeding, milk time, nap time, play time and

eventually, bed time. Aside from that, the trainee also did some extra tasks like washing

the plates, mapping the floor and cleaning the cottage.

October 11, 2016

Today, the trainee is assigned in cottage 5. Infants. At first, she was struggling

between requesting to be reassigned or do it without question because first, she has no

idea how to handle small and fragile babies and second, she has colds every morning and

doesnt want any kid to get it. Nonetheless, she decided to give it a try.

The first thing she did was the bathe the babies. She made it a point to choose

larger babies to bathe because holding the smaller ones scare her. After bath, they
brought the babies to their high chairs and feed them. After breakfast, they put them in a

crib for milk and then play time afterwards.

Around after lunch, one of the social workers paid the cottage a visit. As it turns

out, she has her own favorite among the babies and these are the twins. Initially, the

trainee noticed that the twins always want to be fed first, be held while drinking milk and

be held during play time. She concludes that is it the result of too much attention being

given to them by the social workers compared to other children. This could affect the

attitude of the twins in the future because of being pampered too much.

October 12, 2016

The trainee is back to cottage one today. Each trainees are expected to stay in one

cottage for at least once or twice so probably this will be her last stay with the toddlers.

Feeding the kids may sound easy to the trainee because of the past two days of

experience.

Because of that, she failed to become cautious about doing so and end up choking

one of the toddler because of feeding him a large portion of pea. Everybody got worried

and nervous at the same time because anything that will happen to the kids will be their

fault, especially the trainees. Good thing that there was a nurse with them who stayed

calm and gave the kid first aid by tapping his back till be could breathe again. She found

out that on situations like this, ones reaction could entirely affect the outcome.

After the scenario, she become more careful of feeding the kids and more attentive to

their needs. Truly, raising kids is not a joke.

At around 9 am, one of the kids with mild cerebral palsy became attached to her.

He doesnt want anybody to play with him except the trainee. When it is tme for his

physical training with his teacher, he tried to put up a fight because he doesnt want to go

with him. When he came back, its not like he knows the trainee at all.

The trainee concludes that the child has some separation anxiety issues. He gets

attached almost immediately but it eventually fades with a short duration of time. But of

course, this is a subject to assessment.

The rest of the day went between feeding, bath, milk and play time until it is

finally time to go to bed.

She noticed that the oldest toddlers already know basic tasks like sitting on their

own chairs whenever its meal time, going to bed without coming out of it again, and

toilet training despite the fact the eldest has only turned 2 years old.

At around 2 pm, one of the kids throws tantrum and fight with every kid. Because

of that, the mama decided to punish him by telling him to go to bed. The child continued

on wailing inside the room so the mama placed him in a crib where he cannot climb out.

Eventually he stopped crying and when the mama let him to come outside to play, he

became more behaved than usual. Again, operant conditioning was applied.

The trainee has studied about developmental psychology for one academic

semester but it is only now that she is finally making sense of it because application and

experience is absolutely a lot better than just simply reading it and memorizing.
October 13, 2016

The trainee is once again assigned in cottage five with the infants. Today, she is

more confident of handling the infants, feeding, bathing, and playing with them. She

developed her own favorites which are the two quiet boys who rarely gets the attention.

But of course, she does not give them her entire attention because she does not want them

to get used to it and eventually become one of the brats.

As usual, the twins still wants to be taken and fed first. The trainee proposed to

the cottages mama to refrain from holding the twins especially when they cry to get what

they want. She agreed but eventually give up because the twins wailing reached the very

last cottage of the village.

At the age of 1 and 10 months, the twins have learned to climb their own crib.

Despite the fact the there is other infant that is way larger than them, the twins are already

scheduled to be transferred to the cottage one (toddlers) to avoid regression and further

stimulate their mental and physical growth.

October 14, 2016

Today is the trainees frist time to be assigned in a cottage of girls with mental

delays and retardation. The cottage two.

When she entered the cottage, she was welcomed by teenage girls with autism,

global developmental delay, down syndrome, cerebral palsy and mental retardation. She

stayed with them for another 15 minutes until it is time to go to the dining hall and have

breakfast.
She was tasked to assist of the girls towards the dining hall because she was blind

and deaf. The trainee was amazed of how disciplined the residents are. When the cook

asked the boys to fall in line, they do so without further instruction. And when its the

girls turn, they also comply. Some of the highly functional residents help in spoon-

feeding the wheelchair bound children. The others help in distributing the food for those

who are blind, deaf and physically handicapped to get it. When everybody has the food,

nobody touches the food until they finish their prayer. Nobody leaves the chair until food

is finished. Although there are cases when a child is being attacked by their hyperactivity,

the rest of the meal was peaceful.

When they went back to the cottage, the residents immediately strip off their

shoes and clothes to take a bath and brush their teeth. Overall, the trainee could observe

independence among the residents who are intelligent enough who take care of

themselves.

Some of the residents of the village are helping with different tasks. Two of the

girls in cottage two help in the laundry everyday.

Therefore, the trainee is left with nothing else to do but observe. She decided to

sweep the floor and help in designing the house for the coming Halloween trick or treat.

While she was working, there is this talkative teenage girl with down syndrome who

never stops talking about stuffs. Most of what she says are not clear but she gets annoyed

whenever the trainee asked her to repeat her statements. So, she just repeats what the girl

says by guessing and most of time listens and pretends like she understood. The girl was

absolutely sweet and smart. As it turns out, the girl is having a crush with her male co-

trainee. When she asked the cottages mama of how she learned to have crushes, she says
that it is not being introduced to them and she did not know where she learned it.

Therefore, although she does not fully understand what she feels, there is no denying that

her female hormones is still in action despite her condition. Because of such occurences,

the institutional doctor injects contraceptives to the residents, despite the fact that they are

being watched most of the time, to avoid impregnation if ever such scenario actually

happens.

On the other hand, there is this another girl who also have down syndrome. Her

difference with the one mentioned earlier is that this girls knows little compared to the

previous one. Mostly, she only knows how to eat, strip off her clothes and take a bath.

Otherwise, she spends her entire day sitting on the floor and rubbing his shoes across her

face.

Despite having the same condition, is it still possible to have different levels of

intelligence depending on their biological make up. The trainee conclude that is due to

genetics because both girls were raised in the institution since they were below 1 year

old, giving them same level of attention.

However, there is something similar to the two girls. Both are having sexual

feelings. The former due to her crush to opposite sex, and the former due to her frequent

touching of her private part. Sometimes, she stares blankly on the wall while doing so,

sometimes, laughing.

October 21, 2016

This is the trainees second day in cottage two. Same routine will be followed just

like yesterday. From which breakfast will start at 6 am. This time, she was assigned to
assist the youngest mentally delayed girl. She is six years old. She likes to cry without

any reason and the only way to make her stop is her mama.

When they went back to the cottage, the girls bathe, brushed their teeth and

proceed to their respective tasks.

The trainee read the girls history record since she has nothing else to do. She

found out that most of them are abandoned and placed in a box like kittens. The cottages

mama thought it was a good day so they decided to stroll outside and play. There, they

met the new parents of the toddler that will be adopted. They were Swedish and

extremely friendly.

The trainee also met a resident with belles syndrome and intellectual disability.

She was into harry potter, which is the trainees favorite novel so they immediately click

in. However, the girl specifically likes voldemort, who portrays an evil and murderous

character. Given the fact that some of the children develops psychotic features through

the course of time, it is a possibility for the girl to learn harmful tendencies from the

people she idolized. The trainee brought this to the doctors attention but only gave her a

shrug because it has been a common knowledge that she likes voldemort.

During lunch, the trainee notices that one of the blind resident do not sit

immediately on her chair. This is because she has the tendency to get hyper whenever

food is delayed knowing the fact that she is already on the table. Nonetheless, despite

their commendable discipline, differences still dominates and each child needs different

kind of attention and instructional method.

Overall, everybody can feed themselves with minimum supervision except the

wheelchair-bound who generally cerebral palsy and eats either lying or sitting upright.
October 27, 2016

The trainees new assigned cottage is number seven comprised of three extremely

hyper teenage girls with autism and down syndrome. Two of them are too noisy when

provoked, while the other could harm just anyone and ruins other peoples clothes.

However, they are considered as one of the moderately functional because although they

cannot speak, they are capable of doing certain tasks by themselves specifically, feeding.

Because of that, the trainee no longer have to help them in the dining hall so she is being

assigned to the wheelchair-bound during feeding. Today she is assigned to a 20-year old

boy with cerebral palsy. It is observed that he has appetite at that time but he bites the

spoon in every opportunity to do so. It is because of his impaired motor skills that refrain

him from letting go of the spoon once bitten.

After breakfast, the trainee met a 16-year old boy with down syndrome. That boy

asked her name and have a little chitchat for a moment. The trainee realized that among

the other residents that has down syndrome, this is by far the most intelligent. He tells

him his interest and what hes usually busy at. When its time to back to their respective

cottages, he waved good bye went home.

Because of the previous encounter, the trainee concluded that the residents are not

only trained to do certain activities accordingly but also to be polite and well-mannered

young individuals.

The mama of the house decided that it was a good day for a stroll so she and the

three residents of the cottage 7 went out. Two of them held hands since the other one is

blind and strolled. The trainee notices that they never stepped on the grass once and only

walk on the designated path. Again, another sign of discipline.

On the other hand, she and the other resident played on the play ground. This

resident is another girl with down syndrome. She does not speak but only utter the word

mamabeh. There is no other diagnosis to the girl other than down syndrome but

evidently, she has speech disability. She would utter the word in different manner, pitch,

volume and tone.

After about an hour, the rain started to pour so she instructs the girls to go home

with her and they did.

During this day, there is an immersion of a group of caregivers. They will be there

for the rest of the day to volunteer and attend a seminar. The trainees were invited to be

there so at 11 am, they went to the conference room. After the talk, the trainees were

asked to participate in a volleyball match. The trainee initially declined due to the fact

that she is not particularly a sporty person, has little knowledge about the game and has

negative past experience about it. However, the coach insisted so she joined in since that

was not exactly an actual match. At the end, she messed up and didnt hit any ball. She

feels that the coach is being annoyed by her performance but she told herself that she did

not ask for it. However, she was a little embarrassed during the match because the

audiences, particularly the caregivers and social workers made fun of her. She was

silently cursing them because of it but when she came back to the cottage, she realized

how silly she has been and laugh along with it.

October 28, 2016

This is the trainees second day in cottage 7. Same routine was followed and then

wait for another tomorrow.

The girl with down syndrome, just like the one in cottage 2, always reaches for

her genitals to touch or point out to suspecting viewers. This only reinforce the trainees

conclusion about their hormonal changes and sexual desires.

During the breakfast, she helps on feeing a girl with cerebral palsy. The girl

smells unpleasant. The trainee could nto pin point if this was because of the lack of

hygienic care or that is has something to do with her disability. But of course, she could

not resort into assuming that It was the caregivers fault. Afterall, they have a bunch of

young adults to take care of.

During the stroll time, the trainee met two girls with cerebral palsy. They both

have crutches to support their lower body to move and walk. They talked for a while until

it is time to go for a snack break.

When she was looking for her other co-trainees to take a break with her, she

encountered this sarcastic caregiver from cottage 8. At first, she doesnt mind the sarcasm

but eventually, it get on her nerves because she was asking a decent question about the

whereabouts of her companions and she gets are impolite answers. She did not fight

against that attitude and decided to walk away. Evidently, the caregiver did not notice his

behavior and probably it was being cool.

October 29, 2016

The trainees next assignment is cottage six, consisting of highly functional boys.

There is one wheelchair-bound there but he is generally functioning, could feed himself

and only needs minimal assistance. The other boy there has hydrocephalus with echolalia.

He and another boy resident have undergone operation so they always have to wear
helmets for protection. Another boy in this cottage has ADHD but there is no evident

mental retardation to him. He likes reading books and is kind of a snob. Next is a boy

with OCD. It is very evident because although he has mental retardation, he spends his

entire day cleaning the cottage and even gardening. Clothes in the laundry room are

arranged according to colors and even the books, according to sizes.

There will be Halloween party later that day so the trainees brought their own

costumes to participate. She helped in dressing the children and painting their faces.

During the preparation, the boy with mild cerebral palsy approached her and showed her

his collection of pictures. He said that she looks like the previous trainee in CCV and so

he gave her 2 of his collections as remembrance.

The trainee was touched by this gesture and made a mental note of giving these

children something to remind them that at some point of time, they have been there.

During the program of trick or treat, some of the highly functional children performed an

introductory dance number. So far, they are in coordination and follows the steps the

entire time. The next activity is the horror house. Majority of the children did not wish to

enter because of the sound effects and darkness. Some are brave enough with the

assistance of other employees. Not a single resident with down syndrome entered the

house. The caregivers told them that downs are generally easy to scare.

October 30, 2016

Today is the last day of the trainee. She was initially assigned in cottage 8 where

wheelchair-bound patients reside. However, around 9 am, their supervisor/institutional

doctor assigned them in cottage 11 where children with highly severe cases and psychotic

features reside.

She and her other two cotrainees were tasked to assess a boy who has been

recently transferred in cottage 11 from cottage six and find out what his case is and

provide recommendations for him.

At first, the three trainees were afraid to enter the place because of its eerie

ambiance and the stories they heard about it.

Basically, the cottage is full of psychotic residents and other caregivers warned

them about being extremely alert about their actions which only adds to their dread. As

they enter the room, they were welcomed by residents who are entirely boys. Some are

sitting while facing the wall, some are moving back and forth while on the chair, some

looked at them and gave them a look of curiosity. They immediately try to find where

their subject is and found him resting on his room. The boy has been transferred there

because of his manifestation of cruelty towards animals. He has mild cerebral palsy, mild

intellectual delay, but is capable to speak and make sense of the conversation.

While they were talking to him, they were approached by another boy with

cerebral palsy. Because of the early intervention he received, both of them are capable of

walking. As it turns out, he also came from cottage 6 but has been transferred because of

the psychotic features that has been observed. In general, they are the only resident on

that cottage who is capable to speak.

During the conversation, the boy that approached them suddenly told thet trainee

how strong he was and how capable he was of dragging her inside the room. This elicit

fear to trainee given the fact that she is only sitting inches away from him and she knows
that people like these has undeniable strength. However, she did not show her fear

because they could be manipulative especially if they know that they are being feared of,

so she continued the conversation while slowly moving away from him.

Nevertheless, the boy missed nothing and asked her why did she stood up. She

pretends to be having cramps and tried to alter the subject into a lighter one and wipe off

his current thoughts of actually hurting them.

After the encounter, they went cottage to cottage to distribute bracelet rosary to

the children, since they are all catholics. She also gave some pictures and letters to some

who are capable of understading the gesture. Although some of them cannot actually

read, she gave it anyway and read for them. They looked so happy over the simple gifts

and it warmed her heart.

INDUSTRIAL SETTING

November 9, 2016

Today is the trainees first day in Alfamart Trading Inc. She was interviewed by

one of the recruitment agents for formality and went inside the office to introduce herself

and start her work. There are three divisions inside the human resource office of alfamart,

the recruitment, The Systems Services Delivery or timekeeping, and the Training.

Her first assignment is in SSD by preparing and pouching retro pay slips, and

segregate them by branch. At first, she did not understand the importance of pay slip

because as long as the employee gets her/his salary, there is no issue. One of her

supervisors enlightened her by discussing the content of the pay slips including the raw

salary, tax, SSS, and Pag-ibig contributions and other adjustments for leaves and

absences.

After that, the trainee issued receipt or turn over form for the pay slips to the

respective head of each branch, cut out request slips, fliers and lists of requirements for

future use.

The trainee has been welcomed warmly by the employees. They make jokes with

her like she actually belonged to the team. She initially thought the industrial setting will

be the hardest because of pressure and provided that the trainee is prone to mistakes, she

was afraid of being shout at and embarrassed for a low quality of performance. But

because of this first experience, she realized that the corporate is not too bad, after all.
November 10, 2016

The trainee did not finished cutting the fliers and requirements yesterday so when

she went to the office, she resumed the task immediately. At the middle of cutting, one of

the recruitment agent asked her to accompany her in interviewing. With all honesty, she

felt anxious. She generally have a hard time of engaging and interacting to people. She is

shy and usually awkward around strangers. Or so she thought. Because when she entered

the room ful of applicants, she felt confident and energized. She thought maybe it is

because of her experience in other settings that made her personality a little tougher than

usual.

She began with getting the heights of the applicants. As it turn out, most of the

heights that they put on their resume are a little higher than their true height. This is the

reason why they still confirm the height by looking at it first hand because some

applicants have the tendency to lie about it for the sake of qualification. To be honest, it

was really tempting to do so since job offers are a little scarce these days.

Her supervisor taught her which questions to be asked and made her observe first.

Hoever, she did it only once and already asked her to transfer to another cell and start her

own interview. Again, the feelings of anxiety comes in because she only witnessed it

once and now shes on her own. But to be fair, the applicants she is about to interview are

already not qualified based on the resume and it does not entirely matter how she did it.

These not qualified applicants are still being interviewed for formality and it will be

hurtful if they cast them out just because they lack the height or the educational

attainment required.
After a series of interviews, she eventually mastered the task, although she admits

of missing certain questions.

After the interview, she continued cutting the fliers and after that, she was asked

to attach SCRF forms to its respective envelops (form 201).

Novemeber 11, 2016

Today, the trainee will go to Calamba with one of the recruitment agents for a job

fair. Alfamart only have two human resource office. The head office is on MOA Pasay

and the other, which is the one she is working at, is in Imus. Therefore, applicants who

wish to apply have to go all the way to Imus to do so. That is why the company engages

in job fairs facilitated by PESO in distant cities to offer opportunities to people to be part

of the team

However, when they reached the city hall of Calamba, they found out that they

were not on the list of the companies who confirmed their participation. They almost go

back to Cavite if they were not given a table for the interview. There were no free foods,

though.

Her first task is to disseminate the fliers that she previously cut to the people

around who might want to apply. After a few minutes, the table is surrounded by non-

suspecting applicants who wants to apply.

After the fliers, she then distributed application forms since not everybody

brought their resume given the fact that they only been aware about the presence of

alfamart because of the distributed fliers.

She collected the application forms and begin her interview.

This time, she was not only given not qualified applicants but rather, she has been

entrusted to handle applicants who are hired on the spot. During the interview, she met an

applicant who finished a course of environmental science. The guy speaked with

confidence and this intimidate her a little. She met another older lady who speaks with

sophistication and that also got her nerves. She realized that is it harder to talk to people

who she knows, knew and experienced a lot more than her. However, she maintained her

finesse and authority and remind herself that today, she is the one in charge.

The job fair finished at around 2 pm and they all went home afterwards.

November 14, 2016

Today, the trainee was asked to file time keeping forms such as Change of

schedule, Undertime, overtime and Leave of Absences forms. After that, she assisted the

recruitment officer to the interview and get their heights.

Afterwards, she was asked to photo copy test materials for future use. She was no

longer anxious of using the machine because she had been introduced to its operation on

her previous OJT setting. She also file surrendered IDs of the resigned and AWOL

employees and mutilated them so the barcode will no longer be of use.

At around 2 pm, she administered a series of test to applicants such as Verbal ability test,

Culture Fair Intelligence test, Leadeship Opinion Test and Basic Office Skills test. She

gave them 2 hours to finish the test.

The trainee was introduced on receiving the requirements of the applicants. She

has to check first if the physical exam is at least class B, otherwise, the applicant needs

confirmation that she/he is fit for work. After that, she has to rely on the list of checklists
to make sure that there are no missing requirements. However, there are cases that TORs

and COEs are not given yet, which is alright as long as the government numbers are

present.

The trainee was not too familiarized of what does a certain requirement looks like.

Because of that, she takes a long time to receive the rest of the requirements. There were

instances when she was looking at the thing she looking for obliviously while asking if

the applicant have it.

After that, the trainee filed requirements on a green folder. This means that the

employee will be regularized. Later that day, she was asked to write on the logsheet the

names of the newly hired employees based on their employee number, name postion, date

hired and end of contract. The office already have soft copies of them but they still had

to have a written records of it. When asked what is its importance, the employee does not

know either.

November 15, 2016

Today, the trainee continued writing on the logsheet of timekeeping. Afterwads,

she get the heights of the applicants and proceed to the interview. That day, one of the

applicants was a friend of a the trainee. She interviewed her and qualified. However, she

was feeling a little nervous for passing her on the initial interview because her supervisor

might think that she only do so just because of she knows the person. Nonetheless, she

remains convicted that she passed her friend because she actually qualified.

Later that day, she received requirements of the applicants and administered

psychological and intellectual assessment to them. Those tests are the same tests that was
administered previously. She resort into filing forms 201 to their respective cabinets and

the folders for regularization.

Earlier that day, she found out that her co-trainees were scolded by the HR

assistant supervisor for eating during work hours. And later that day, all of them was

scolded for trying to go home 15 minutes earlier than supposed off.

The trainee honestly does not know what gave her the idea of going out too early.

She have not done it from her previous setting because she knows how inappropriate that

is. However, because of having too many co-trainees, the external factor overcomes her

internal attitude towards the issue that leads her to think that it is okay.

Therefore, she admits the wrong on her part. She knows that they deserved the

scolded but that doesnt make her feel any better. She felt embarrassed for being treated

like a small child and the worse part is that, she actually deserves it.

November 16, 2016

The first thing that the trainee did today is to continue writing on the logsheet of

newly hied employees. The HR personnel admit that they rarely got the chance to update

it thats why they are very thankful for the trainees for choosing the company for their

training grounds.

The recruitment agent thought that it was time for the other trainees to experience

interview so she asked her to teach her co-trainees the basics of how to do the interview.

She taught two of her companions for about 30 minutes and they already memorized it.

However, one of the HR personnel mistakenly took those two trainees with her to go and
shred in the basement. This leaves the trainee no other choice but to do the interview

once again.

Her other trainees admits for being disappointed because they were all too ready

to perform the task.

Once again, the recruitment agent did not just gave her not qualified applicants

but also entrusted her the ones that are qualified on sight. Later that day, she received

requirements form the applicants with her other co-trainee to teach him how to do so.

After that, she was asked to find the resumes of the applicants that are qualified for the

training and called them to disseminate information regarding the date of second

interview.

At around 3 pm, she was asked by one of her supervisors to assist her on the

training of the applicants and overlook the process to familiarize herself to it. She noticed

that most of the trainees are noisy and quite energized. Although the noisy part is a little

negative, she htinks that it is the very attitude the company needs from a store crew, jolly

and approachable.

The training consists of orientation about the different part of support group and

introducing them to the history, vision and mission of the company.

The trainees first task for today is to file the folders of the regularized employees.

She cut requirement lists for future use and update the logsheet of newly hired
employees. She created pouches of the payslips and segregated them into different

branches. She filed forms 201 of the probationary employees for the deployment.

Today is another ordinary day for the trainee. No rush, no pressure. Or so she thought.

She later realized how thin and see-through her blouse was, which she did not noticed

earlier that day. Because of that, her undercloth is too visible and worse, she forgot to

wear sando. It took away her confidence and becomes anxious whenever there is

somebody behind her because of the fear of other people to find out. She has always been

a reserved person thats why this situation is a big deal to her.

Because of this, she texted her mother to come and bring her a cardigan because

she could not work properly while being self-conscious. Her mom saved the day and

went to her.

November 21, 2016

Today is one of those lazy days in HR office. The supervisors do not have any

task for the trainees so they went downstairs to manually shred the discarded files of the

office. Most of the files that they eliminated are resumes and application letters of

applciants who did not qualify in the inittial interview. Others are form 201 of resigned

and AWOL employees.

During the task, the trainee was summoned by the recruitment agent to help her

on the interview. There were only few applicants so the supervisor allowed her to do all

the interviews by herself.

After the interview, she went down to the basement to help on the discarding of

the files that are no longer needed. There she found a crying girl looking for a person
named Gelo Romero. She is from Laguna and she claimed that Gelo called her for the

training that day. A it turns out, her name is not included in the lists and now shes

blaming this Gelo, who is an OJT for the mistake. However, there is no such name in the

office, not even among the the OJT trainees.

November 23, 2016

Today, the trainee taught her other co-trainee on doing the interview and do the

interview together. She met different kinds of people that day, including an older lady

who seems to know a lot of things. However, the company do not accept store crews that

old so she had to disqualify her.

After that, she pulled out resume and call them to inform them about the opening

for the position customer assistant. Some of the people they called sounded irritated and

claimed that she have already been interview for it and been told to wait for 3 days for a

call that did not come.

November 24m 2016

The trainee spent her day writing on the logbook of newly hired employees. She

also cut shedules of the sore crews that are to be laminated. lAer that day, She pulled out

live bird th of the employees for their regularization.

Duringthe interview, one of the applicants lost her resume and blamed the OJT

trainees fo losing it. However, the supervisor did not entertain her rants and told her to go

back to the warehouse and find it. The applicant came back with her resume.
November 25, 2016

Today the trainee checked the exams of the applicants. At around 9 am, the

employees surprised one of the managers who is an Indonesian national for his despedida

party. The trainee saw how each employees value and appreciate each other regardless of

the race. She have already noticed it before when their supervisors fail to make a big out

of their mistakes and understands their shortcomings.

Later that day, she interviewed applicants together with her other co-trainees,

wrote on th logbook for updates and prepared payslips and called for applicants for the

second interview of the previously accepted applicants. After that, she received

requirements from the applicants. She realized that the tasks are becoming easier for her

because of constant practice and exposure to the task. She did so with minimal mistakes

and was able to act like an actual HR officer now.

November 26, 2016

The trainee was asked to scan the SCRF forms to the USB memory for the report

of the her supervisor. She was taught of how to do so but it still took her a while to finally

do it correctly.

After that, they were sent downstairs to pull out birth certificates and marriage

certificates of employees that are to be regularized. In the afternoon, they participate in

surprising one of the HR officer for her birthday. The entire day has been a positive and

light one.
November 28

The entire trainees spent the rest of the day tearing down the files that are no

longer needed. They were accompanied by two of their supervisors, who are easy to be

with. They talked about their current lives while doing the task some suggestions about

the industrial world.

November 29, 2016

Today is her last day in the company. They did nothing for the rest of the day but

shred the files that are no longer needed. She met the newest OJT trainee in the

department who came from another school. They immediately clicked in because she was

generally nice.

The supervisors were not around for the rest of the day because they were

downstairs on a company meeting consisting of all the employees involving the ones

from the head office of Pasay. So basically, they did nothing after the shredding so they

decided to just talk about any topic that comes to their minds.

The trainee realized that talking to people she barely knew has been a nice change. The

trainee has always been a reserved person and usually talks to people shes comfortable

to be with. But because of this experience, she found out that engaging to people with

different personalities, temperament and philosophies are quite challenging but

energizing at the same time. She felt like everyday, she is being is being stimulated just

by simply interacting with them.
