Dear Marin,

We met briefly when you so graciously gave us a behind-the-scenes tour of Bullets Over Broadway. This year
have been awarded the Mazzie Marineau Scholarship for 2014/15. I am writing to you to show my thanks
and gratitude for this much needed blessing. A college education is a very difficult experience for any young
person. I have found that it provides a student, particularly a young artist, the opportunity for self-
discoverybut only after facing many, MANY obstacles.

After my parents divorced during my sophomore year, I struggled for a long time with rediscovering my
identity, processing my thoughts, and even expressing myself artistically. Financial hardship was just the
icing on the cake. Thankfully, Joan and the faculty at Western Michigan University gave me strength and
supported me, even when I made so many mistakes. Their choice to allot me financial aid alleviates so
much stress off of my life and allows me to concentrate on developing my skills and becoming the best
possible artist. Now, as a senior, I can confidently say I have conquered my obstacles and am more
determined and focused than Ive ever been.

While studying at WMU, I have been able to perform in Caroline, or Change in York Theatre; The Three
Musketeers, Ragtime, and 9 to 5 in Shaw Theatre; White Christmas and How to Succeed over at the Kalamazoo
Civic Theatre, among other unforgettable opportunities like Footlights, directing scenes, and staged
readings. This semester I am working on the role of Sheila in HAIR, which goes up in November (we have
TWO guest artists working on this show!)

Just a little about me: I am a Kalamazoo native. My favorite musical is, and will always be, Sunday in the Park
with George. This summer I worked for HersheyPark Entertainment in PA as an improvisational performer. I
am extremely passionate about immersive, interactive, and site-specific theatre, and hope to explore that
world when I graduate.

After working on Ragtime in the fall of 2013, and studying your work on the role of Mother, as well as all
your work since then, I was so honored to have received a scholarship attached to your name. Marin, I
respect you so much as an artist and human and I hope to see you on stage again soon. Thanks to the
Mazzie Marineau Scholarship I can looking forward to conquering my senior year and moving to New
York after graduation.

Sincerely yours,

!
