THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An urban recreation centre of international standards is to come up on the 20 acres of land
adjacent to the Veli tourist village acquired for setting up an amusement park nine years ago.
The recreation centre, being set up by the State-owned Tourist Resorts Kerala Limited (TRKL), is poised to be a major
breakthrough in tourism infrastructure development in the State.
It will have a mix of entertainment, commercial components and tourist accommodation facilities under a single umbrella.
The project, with an investment of Rs.1,500 million, is envisaged through Public-Private-Partnership model, according to
TRKL Managing Director T.K. Manzoor.
The TRKL, a company under Kerala Tourism, was restructured as Kerala Tourism Infrastructure and Investment Company
Limited' to broaden activities for infrastructure development and to attract large-scale investments in the tourism sector.
Mr. Manzoor said the recreation centre was the first project of the new company.

The project components envisaged are modern recreation facilities like night cricket, go carting, bowling alleys, cultural
performance centres, children's play areas, amusement areas with rides, etc.
