Spacecraft Dynamics Assignment Solutions

The document contains 6 questions from an assignment on spacecraft dynamics. It provides partial or full solutions for the questions. Question 1 involves calculating orbital parameters like eccentricity and period for a satellite orbit. Question 2 calculates the eccentricity, perigee altitude, and semimajor axis given orbital altitudes at different true anomalies. Question 3 determines the flight path angle and altitude at a true anomaly given initial perigee conditions. The remaining questions involve calculating orbital parameters like apogee and perigee altitudes given specific angular momentum, energy or true anomaly ranges.

Question 1

An unmanned satellite orbits the earth with a perigee radius of 7000 km and apogee radius of
70000 km. Calculate:

(a) the eccentricity of the orbit;

(b) the semimajor axis of the orbit (km);
(c) the period of the orbit (hours);
(d) the specific energy of the orbit (km2/s2);
(e) the true anomaly at which the altitude is 1000 km (degrees);
(f) and at the points found in part (e) (km/s);
(g) the speed at perigee and apogee (km/s)

Question 2

The following data for an earth orbiter are given:

Altitude = 1700 km at a true anomaly of 130.
Altitude = 500 km at a true anomaly of 50.

(b) The perigee altitude (km)
(c) The semimajor axis (km)

Partial Ans.: (c) 7547 km

Question 3
