The classroom layout is designed to accommodate different learning activities like lectures, group work, and study sessions. Student desks are arranged in pairs facing the front for lectures, and larger tables are placed behind for group projects. The teacher's desk is by the door for classroom management and taking attendance. An area with couches and bookshelves serves as a study lounge where students can relax with permission. The classroom layout is designed for many different lesson plans; lectures, group work,

study sessions, and many other types of learning within this classroom. Lectures will
take place in the front of the room where student desks (seated in pairs) are facing the
front to view any information on the SmartBoard, whiteboards, bulletin boards, or
teacher. A podium is in the front for the teacher to lean on and store class materials so
that the teacher does not have to leave the front of the room during lectures. Student
desks are placed mindfully so that every student is able to see their peers, which is
designed to help facilitate group discussions. Large, round tables are placed behind
individual student desks for group projects or lessons that require larger table space. If
the classroom space does not allow for larger tables, individual student desks may be
pushed together for these activities.
The teacher's desk is placed by the door as a form of classroom management; students
will be greeted by the teacher as soon as they come in, and any potential behavioral
problems (dress code, shouting, dangerous actions) can be addressed right away.
Attendance may also be taken while students walk in. The teacher desk is L-shaped:
one desk will include personal files, computers, etc.. while the other desk will include
turn-in boxes, late or absent paperwork, and chairs for impromptu student meetings with
the teacher. Teacher storage will be behind the desk area as well. The teacher desk
space is designed for a balance of teacher/student convenience, and grading efficiency.
The teacher desk is also placed in the back of the classroom to encourage myself as
the teacher to move around the other areas of the classroom while providing instruction.

The lower right part of the classroom will serve as a library study lounge: equipped with
two couches and a bookshelf, this area will be open to students (with teacher
permission) for study and stress-management. This area can be used as an incentive
for students by the teacher - if students exceed classroom expectations they will get
permission from the teacher to chill out in the study library lounge!

Area rugs are placed in each area of the classroom to serve as a physical separation of
the different spaces. As the teacher, I can utilize the rugs for my classroom
management by telling students to "stay out of the study lounge" or "head to the group
work area" which can be easily identified by the rugs! The walls will have informational
posters, motivational messages, and a cork tile area to display student work throughout
the school-year. Windows are placed in the front of the room to let natural light into the
classroom, but can be if the light or outside world is distracting to the students.
