SAFE manual for Raft Foundation

 Step 1: Open SAFE software and import the dxf. file provided.
File → Import → dxf.
`

 Step 2: Define the material properties for concrete and steel entering respective values.
Define → Materials → Add new material
For Concrete :
`

For Steel :

 Step 3: Define Zero density

Define → Materials → Add new material
`

 Step 4: Define Raft Slab

Define → Slab Properties → Add new property
`

 Step 5: Define Stiff property with choosing material as zero density and choose analysis
property data type as stiff from pop down option. And enter the thickness same as raft
thickness.
Define → Slab Properties → Add new property
`

 Step 6: Define soil subgrade modulus and enter subgrade modulus value
Define → soil subgrade Properties → Add new property

 Step 7: Define load pattern

Define → load pattern → Add column →Type : Super dead
`

 Step 8: Define load case

Define → load case → Add column →Type : Super dead

 Step 9: Define load case for dead and column load

`

 Step 10: Define Mass Source

 Step 11: Define Load combination

`

a) Un factored

b) Factored Load
`
`

 Step 12: Import Auto CAD DXF file of required slab

 Step 13: Draw Slab area → Assign → Quick draw area

Enter column dimensions, Property → STIFF, Trim → No, And than select the respective
column to which property to be assigned.
`

Select the node where you have to assign the column property
`

 Step 14: Now to assign the axial load of column

Assign → Load data → Surface load
`

Select Column load → Enter the axial column load

In case to modify the load on column replace the existing load by expected load value
`

 Step 15: Now for Punching Shear effect

Assign → Load → Point Loads

Individually assign to each column by entering the column dimensions

Gravity Z = 0.001 T/m2

`

In case to modify, make right click on node → Loads → Force loads → Input required
values
`

Replace the existing load

 Step 16 : Meshing
Run → Automatic Slab Mesh Option
`

Enter the meshing size required for meshing

 Step 17 : Now to design strips

Draw → Draw design strips

`

Enter the required dimensions of strips

To see the strips

→ Set Display Option →Design strip Objects → Tick Show width

`

Strip width will appear

Now select that strip and replicate

`

Enter increment along the required direction , and no. of increments

Now similarly draw the strip along the another axis of raft slab
`

 Step 18 : To design strip

Select → Properties → Design Strip Layers

Design → Slab Design Overwrites → Strip based

`

Tick design this strip & ignore PT when designing this strip

Show selected Object to view stips

`

Show all objects

 Step 19 : Design

Design → Select IS code

`

Select required bar size to be used for raft foundation

`

 Step 20 : Check for Punching shear

Design → Punching Check overwrites

Deformed Force diagram

`

Check for soil pressure

Punching shear check details
