PMCI- Business Analysis Activity Guidelines


Introduction

The Business Analysis Programme called Product-Market-Company-Industry (PMCI) analysis forms an


important component of PGDM Programme at VJIM. Under this programme, students undertake a ten days
activity on a product allotted by the institution and prepare a report of minimum 10 pages. The programme
carries a weightage of 1.5 credits.

Objectives:
 Expose the student to business
 Help student to understand the concepts learned in the class room being applied
 Sharpen the writing skills of the student

Nature of the activity

 Product to be studied is allotted by the institution to the student.


 Student has to choose a 3 – 5 companies making the product that has been allotted.
 Comprehensive study should be done by the student regarding the aspects relating to Product-
Market-Company-Industry. An indicative/ suggested requirements of the study are given under the
next heading
 Students have to map the learning outcomes by relating the theories/concepts in various management
functions with observations from the study
 A minimum of 30% of the study should be in the form of field work (a survey or physical study)

Indicative/suggested contents of the study will be in the following sequence

1. Product: Product Characteristics, Uses, Durability, Utility, Composition, Component list, Product
extensions, applications
2. Market: Types of market structure, size, growth rate, market shares, Nature of Competition, Selling
Modes/Techniques and consumer perceptions, Geographical markets
3. Company: Profile – plants, product range, innovative practices, Financial health/performance,
Movement of stock prices
4. Industry: Significance of this this industry, Trends and opportunities

Study Mode:

Self study (Should seek support from mentors)

PMCI Functional Analysis: As the students is studying the product, market, company and industry, He/She
should also include information on ANY TWO functions among HRM / Marketing / Operations / Finance
functions of atleast three companies from the relevant industry that they are studying.

Evaluation:

Evaluation will be carried out by a panel to be constituted and will be based on the report and viva by the
panel. Report to be submitted by 25th January, 2018.

 Conclusion

Font size should be Times New Roman 12pt, Heading 16pt and 1.5 line spacing.
