SSD Calculation

1) The document discusses SSD (source-to-surface distance) calculations for determining dose at various depths for different linear accelerator beam configurations. 2) The SSD equation is provided which relates the monitor units (MU) setting to prescribed dose based on factors like reference dose rate, inverse square correction, scatter factors, percent depth dose (PDD), and other treatment parameters. 3) Several examples are provided of using the SSD equation to calculate MUs needed to deliver a prescribed dose of 180 cGy at different depths and field sizes, with and without blocking trays or a changed SSD.

Case 7: Rx 180 cGy to d = 5cm, what is the dose to dmax?

In an SDD setup, the doses inside the patient are related by the
ratio of PDDs.

Dose Dmax = 180 cGy x PDD(dmax) / PDD(d=5) 100 cm

10x10 Field Size
= 180 x 100 / 87.1 = 206.7 cGy

dmax Depth = 5 cm
