Social Justice Web Quest for Art for Social Change

In Word, create a document and share with your partner.

Together, embark a quest for the social issues that most interest you and reflect in your
Word doc.

To do on Day 1:

1. Seek out a good definition for the term “social justice.” Paste it into your Word doc.
Include the site you got it from.

2. Visit the UN site for the Declaration of Human Rights:

http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/.
Scan through the document and list 10-12 words from it that best represent the idea of
social justice.

3. Take the Human Rights Day test: Each of you should record your mark in your Word
doc.

4. Select one of the questions you got wrong and research the person or issue. Write a
brief explanation of the person or issue.
Day 2:

1. Research a human rights cartoon. Pick one, copy and paste the cartoon on your
Word doc and explain what human rights issue is being addressed and what you can
infer the cartoonist thinks about it.

2. Create a list of issues involving human rights that are interesting to you (brainstorm
2-4). Check out this UN site for ideas: http://www.un.org/en/rights/

3. Select one issue you would like to investigate further. Research 10 important facts
about your issue.

Day 3:
1. Brainstorm ways to symbolize your issue.
2. Think of ways to solve this issue or problem.
3. Copy and paste any reference images needed to a Word doc and print to use in the
classroom.
4. Your art work should show your topic as a metaphor or creatively use symbols to
visualize the issue. Include how to solve the issue.

Day 4-5:
Create a rough sketch of your ideas to visualize your issue. Include the problem and a
solution using words. Have a lay out plan for your art work. The format choices for the
project are: video, song, Prezi, PowerPoint, poster or poetry. All formats must have a
visual creation using metaphor or symbol to represent your topic.

Day 6-10:
Working together on the project to visualize your topic.

Day 11 and 12:

We will show our presentation to the class to teach them about our social justice topic.
