Dan Nolan - Recital Proposal Form

Daniel Nolan is proposing a solo percussion recital for Musc 30600 consisting of three pieces with a total duration of 26 minutes. The pieces are Open End... by Ben Hackbarth (9 minutes), King of Denmark by Morton Feldman (7 minutes), and Khan Variations by Alejandro Vinao (10 minutes). Nolan seeks to showcase the wide variety of timbres in percussion and challenge preconceptions about genres, striving for intimacy in multi-percussion and extroversion in tuned percussion. Please explain (in less than 100 words) the thinking behind your choice of recital programme:
I wanted to showcase the wide variety of colour and timbre that can be found in the world of percussion.
In particular I wanted to challenge preconceptions about multi percussion and tuned percussion, trying to
show how the former can be intimate and melodic and the latter extrovert and rhythmic.

I hereby assert:
1. that my teacher has approved this programme.
2. that I have read and agree to the regulations set out in the ‘Performance Guidelines’ document.
3. that no part of the programme for this recital duplicates any part of any formally examined recital
programme I have performed previously for academic credit.
