Student A: Almost every home, office or school has a computer of some kind
these days. It may seem at first that having a computer brings only
benefits, but further consideration shows that it also has
disadvantages.
Student B: Schools are being provided with computers and students are
encouraged to use the Internet. There are also some pros and cons of
using the computers for studying in the school.
Student C: First of all computers are very useful at school. It helps students to
revise for tests or exams and makes subjects more interesting. Pupils
can also learn new vocabulary and grammatical structures.
Student A: Yes, I agree with you. In future, students will be taught about
computers at a very young age. This in turn will make the younger
generations more and more skilled in electronics and understanding
how they work. This will have a very large impact on they way
projects and school work is viewed.
Student B: One of the bad points by using technology is students will only sit in
front of the computer doing all their work, meaning that they will be
fatter or obese due to sitting whole day.
Student C: Its right, but computer is also useful and helpful. It can help the
students to complete their work faster and accurately. Students can
find information and do research for projects and assignments as
well through the Internet.
Student A: In future, students can only rely on computers instead of pencils and
books on doing their work in everyday life. Furthermore, I feel we
will soon have no books and all work will be done on computers.
Even homework will be done on the Internet and e-mailed to the
teachers.
Student B: Unfortunately, students that use computers in their everyday life will
have a chance to spoil their eyes. As a result, the students’ eyesight
will be poorer.
Student A: Yes, I also agree with you. There are also frequent and prolonged
computer session may pose physical health. The most frequent cited
are visual strain, harmful effects of radiation and posture and skeletal
problems.
Student C: “Hey! Don’t only look at the bad points. There are some good points
also.” Students that use the computer will learn how to use the word
processing programs. Students use the word processing programs for
typing papers because of neatness and uniformity they provide as
opposed to handwritten papers. Computers also make it easy to fix
mistakes without using white out or ruling out words.
Student B: Although computers can fix mistakes easily, it is discouraging
children from learning how to spell correctly of from using correct
grammar. With spell check, a utility available in most word
processing software, students do not have to know how to spell
words correctly because the computer will fix the word for them.
Student C: Besides that, students can use computer for entertainment after
completing their work and feeling tired. They can listen to the music
or watch drama.
Student B: On the other hand some kids would spend all of their time playing
games on the computer rather than using it for educational purpose.
Student A: “Stop! This is not a competition!” I agree with the two of you. The
computer has both a lot of pros and cons. So, in conclusion, students
will know how to use the computer and also encouraged to use it.
They can also teach their parents to use computer because in their
parents’ time, no computers were invented yet. However, we also
have to limit the time we use the computer so it doesn’t affect their
health.
