To Perform the Tension Test on Pre-Stress Strand


Job Description: A pre-stress strand is to be used for the post-tensioning of a highway bridge girder, it is
required by the consultant to assure the quality of pre-stress strand.

Lab Report Requirement:

Students are required to discuss and elaborate the following point in their report.

 Types/grade of the pre-stress strands available in the market


 Relevant ASTM standard or code
 Preparation of test specimens
 Tensile and others requirements
 Experimental procedure

Observation/ Test Results

 Experimental data
 Calculation detail
 Graphs if any (e.g., Load-displacement curves etc.)
 Comparison of results with ASTM standard

Concluding Remarks

Discuss the test results and your final comments on material quality.

Group Size: Maximum 6 students

Evaluation Criteria:

Lab Report: 40 %
Experiment and test results: 30 %
Viva Voce: 30 %
