Instructions & Definitions:

Building Room Data Sheets (RDS)

The Room Data Sheets describe the unique finishes, fittings and system features for rooms within the project.
The information listed on each Room Data Sheet has been edited to reduce repetition and redundancy. Not all
rooms listed in the Detailed Space Program have been assigned a Room Data Sheet, as the focus has been to
create Room Data Sheets for specialized lab rooms only.
Each Room Data Sheet is two pages long. The first page includes a description of the room function, a key
plan illustrating the general layout of the room, key adjacencies, and important elements within the space. The
second page includes technical information for the space, including architectural, structural, mechanical and
electrical features.
Equipment quantities are subject to further change. Design phase activities should include validation and
ratification of equipment quantities and locations.

Explanatory Notes for Mechanical Schedule Information:
The intent of the mechanical schedule information is to alert the designer to a general requirement for a space.
The expectation is that the specific requirements for each space are during the early stages of design, as these
are largely dependent upon the planning of the facility.

 Quantities for plumbing fixtures are not indicated. Specific quantities to be determined during design.
 The Room Data Schedules do not override applicable Codes and Standards.
 “Hot and/or Cold water connection” refers to dedicated connection points for laboratory equipment, etc.
that require plumbed water connections. This may or may not include a dedicated hub or floor drain.
Connections to be made in accordance with Code.

HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning):

 “Air Conditioning” refers to a requirement to provide cooling to the space by mechanical means or other
method which will maintain indoor design conditions when using climatic data found in the National
Building Code of Canada.
 “Mechanically Ventilated” indicates a requirement for an air supply and/or exhaust by means of a
mechanical system.
 “General Exhaust” indicates as requirement for direct exhaust to the outdoors from the space, with
intakes drawing for the space, but not at any specific location or piece of equipment.
 “Fume Hood Exhaust” indicates requirement for connection to a fume hood(s), biosafety cabinet(s) or
other similar equipment to an exhaust system specifically intended for such equipment.
 “Exhaust canopy”: Some equipment may require a point of exhaust extraction for control of heat, dust,
fumes, etc. The requirement may be for a purpose built hood and connection to exhaust system, exhaust
extraction nozzle or connection to an exhaust port on the equipment. Specific requirements to be
determined during design.
 “All air exhausted”: Indicates a requirement for air from this space to be exhaust directly to outdoors and
not re-circulated to any other areas of the facility.
Pressurization (and directional airflow):
 “Pressurization” implies directional airflow into or out of a space, or in some cases balanced flow
(neutral), depending on the column indicated. A measurable pressure difference is not required unless
specifically indicated. Expectation is that the mechanical design with use offsets in airflow to
 “+” indicates positive pressurization relative to adjacent space(s), meaning that airflows will be balanced
such that the net airflow will be out of the space. Generally used to indicate a space that requires
protection from adjacent spaces.
 “-” indicates negative pressurization relative to adjacent space(s), meaning that airflows will be balanced
such that the net airflow will be into the space. Generally used to indicate that activities within the space
are to be contained to that space, protecting adjacent areas.
 “N” indicates that the space is neutral, with supply and return/exhaust is balanced such that net air flow is
neither in nor out of the space.
Local Controls:
 “Local controls” refers to combination of sensors, controller and related equipment as necessary to
provide control of the indicated variable.
 While “local controls” may be indicated, it may not be necessary to provided dedicated controls to this
area depending on the design of the facility. For example, some spaces maybe part of a larger space,
where providing additional controls may have little benefit.
 “Pressure” controls indicate that active control should be provided over room pressure, beyond statically
balancing airflows. Control strategies such as airflow tracking, etc. should be employed. Dynamic
pressure measurement for indication and/or controls may be required.
 “Humidity” control means that space may require local dehumidification and/or humidification. While
dedicated equipment may be required, the design must take into account control of humidity.
 “Temperature” means control should be provided to maintain temperatures in the space near design
temperature.

Explanatory Notes for Electrical Schedule Information:

Electrical schedules information is provided to reflect the implementation of services required as per planning
of the functional program. Consultation process and feedback from the user groups has been incorporated
into the schedules to best represent the electrical and telecommunication requirements that will promote
performance and efficiency. Number of devices shown in columns still requires further review during later
design stages. Electrical design will enforce local, provincial and all applicable codes and regulations.
Power
 Duplex receptacles 15A/120V reflects the requirements for general building services as well as
connection points for benching and office equipment.
 Computer receptacles 15A/120V shall be provided for computer connections needed throughout the
buildings. One duplex receptacle has been designated to service a lap top computer, however, selected
offices or work spaces may require additional receptacles.
 Special Requirements column accounts for GFCI rated receptacles, special equipment connections and
any requirements for 220V or 208V service.
 Legend is included in the charts to clarify device application, function or specific manufacturing rating.
 Column for UPS receptacles has not been included, however, it is recommended to reconfirm this
approach in further stage of the design in order to implement proper wiring and locations.
 EP refers to receptacles on emergency power. Further design stage shall determine requirement for
additional devices and exact number and location of devices within the rooms.

Lighting
 Lighting type refers to the lighting source: Fluorescent (F), Incandescent (I), LED (lighting emitter diode),
HID.
 Intensity column describes the illumination at the task plane height.
 Lighting controls is described in the following columns: Local switch, Multi-level switching, motion sensor
and dimming.
 Task lighting column refers to plug-and-play lighting at labs work benches as requested by the user
group.
Communications and Security
 Voice/data outlets are included as two drops per faceplate only, with the design option of installing quad
(Q) receptacles as per cost saving alternative during final design.
 Systems components requirements columns for Sound like Cable TV, Public Address, System, Clocks,
Video Conferencing, Card Access, CCTV and Intrusion Alarm are included in the charts. Columns
referring to Security Systems shall be reviewed and updated to comply with requirements and
recommendations put forward by Cameco security staff.
 Public Address system approach will include zoned system with industrial rated speakers in shops to
filter background noise.
Life Safety Systems
 Life Safety systems are to be installed to protect people and property. The intent at this stage of the
project is to direct the design team to the implementation of alarm system devices rather than provide a
count or specific location of them. The software, hardware components, quantity, quality and installation
should comply with applicable standards and codes.
