G. Learning activity
Activity Description Time
Allocation
Opening Teacher greets the student and and lets the class leader 10 minutes
leads them to pray before starting the class.
Teacher checks the presence of the student.
Teacher recalls previous material related to the
material to be studied today that is about numbers:
integers, naturals, rational, real numbers etc.
Teacher gives motivations to the students about the
advantage of learning the materials that will be learnt
today in real life.
For example: Teacher gives an example of the
problem
“when you become a businessman ice kepal milo. You
need to buy 1 kg milo powder and the price is 90,000,
it can be used for 30 cups of ice kepal milo, for other
ingredients you spend money 120.000 for 30 cups.
Then you sell it with price 9,000/cup. And you want to
analyze that you gain or lose? and how much profit
you have for 1 cups.”
And teacher says “to help us for solfing such problems
is by algebraic expressions. Because algebraic
expressionscan help us to calculate the small amount
of gain or loss that can be obtained or can determine
the amount of capital to be used. So if you want to
know more about algebraic expressions and operation
on algebraic expressions , let's follow the learning
today seriously but enjoy.”
Teacher tells the student the aim of today learning.
Main Teacher shows slides from power point and explains 60 minutes
about notion of coefficients, constants, and variables in
the algebraic expressions (attachment 1)
Teacher opens the session of question and answer
about the explanation
Teacher and student make a highlight about notion of
coefficients, constants, and variables in the algebraic
expressions
Teacher divides students into heterogeneous groups of
4 students each group.
Students work in groups
Teacher guides student to works in group
Teacher asks a group to present their work in front of
the class.
Teacher gives a time to other student to appreciate and
response the presentation.
Teacher asks the student who present their works to
return to their seat
Closing Teacher opens question and answer session 10 minutes
Teacher asks students to make conclude what they
have learned and express about their feeling today
Teacher reminds students to study the next material
(the multiplication and division operation on algebraic
expressions)
Teacher closes the learning activity with praying
together

Time Allocation : 30 Minutes 2. _____________________
Date : 3. _____________________
Instructions
1. Do the activity steps in accordance with the work instructions.
2. In doing activities should prioritize cooperation with your members so as to
achieve maximum learning result
3. If you have difficulty in doing activities, please ask the teacher.
4. Work with pleasure and joy.
5. Do not forget to pray before doing it!
Hint : The addition and substraction operation on algebraic expression only can be
performed on like terms.
1. Solve this addition operation in algebraic expression
𝑎. (2𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 2) + (4𝑥 2 − 5𝑥 + 1)
𝑏. (2𝑎2 + 3𝑎𝑏 − 7) + (5𝑎2 − 2𝑎𝑏 − 4)
2. Solve this substraction operation in algebraic expression
𝑎. (2𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 2) − (4𝑥 2 − 5𝑥 + 1)
𝑏. (3𝑚3 − 5𝑚2 + 𝑚) − (7𝑚3 − 9𝑚2 + 2𝑚)
3. After doing number 1 &2 , Make a conclusion the step to process addition and
substraction operation in algebraic expression!
4. Write algebraic expressions for these word phrases
a. Suppose you bought D DVD’s and B Books. If each DVD cost $14.95 and each book you
bought off the ‘specials’ table cost $6.95, write an expression that tells how much you spent?
Let D represent the number DVD that you buy and B represent the number book that you
buy.
b. On a quiz show, 20 points are given for correct answers to regular questions and 50 points
are given for correct answers in the bonus round. Let R represent the number of regular
questions answered correctly and B represent the number of bonus questions answered
correctly. Suppose that a contestant earned 650 points.Write an algebraic expression number
of points earned !

Alternative Solution
1.
a. (2𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 2) + (4𝑥 2 − 5𝑥 + 1) = 2𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 2 + 4𝑥 2 − 5𝑥 + 1
= 2𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 − 5𝑥 + 1 + 2
= 6𝑥 2 − 8𝑥 + 3
b. (2𝑎2 + 3𝑎𝑏 − 7) + (5𝑎2 − 2𝑎𝑏 − 4) = 2𝑎2 + 3𝑎𝑏 − 7 + 5𝑎2 − 2𝑎𝑏 − 4
= 2𝑎2 + 5𝑎2 + 3𝑎𝑏 − 2𝑎𝑏 − 7 − 4
= 7𝑎2 + 𝑎𝑏 − 11
2.
a. (2𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 2) − (4𝑥 2 − 5𝑥 + 1) = 2𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 2 − 4𝑥 2 + 5𝑥 − 1
= 2𝑥 2 − 4𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 5𝑥 − 1 + 2
= −2𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 + 1
b. (3𝑚3 − 5𝑚2 + 𝑚) − (7𝑚3 − 9𝑚2 + 2𝑚)
= 3𝑚3 − 5𝑚2 + 𝑚 − 7𝑚3 + 9𝑚2 − 2𝑚
= 3𝑚3 − 7𝑚3 − 5𝑚2 + 9𝑚2 + 𝑚 − 2𝑚
= −4𝑚3 + 4𝑚2 − 𝑚
3.
a) Writing the expression and spelling out
b) Grouping like terms together by using the commutative and assosiative properties
c) Operating like terms
d) Simplify
4. a. The algebraic expression is 14.95D + 6.95B
b. The algebraic expression is 650 = 20 R + 50 B

4. Work with pleasure and joy.
5. Do not forget to pray before doing it!
Question :
1. The cost of chocolate shake is 40 cents less than the cost of hamburger. Represent the cost
of hamburger with algebraic expression!
2. The length of rectangle is 7𝑧 2 + 3 inches and the width is 9𝑧 2 + 2 inches. Represent the
circumference of the rectangle!
3. In the basketball game of the season, Tom scored 2𝑥 points, Tony scored 𝑥 + 5 points,
Walt scored 3𝑥 + 1 points, Dick scored 4𝑥 − 7 points and Dan scored 2𝑥 − 2 points. And
the total points is 39 points. So the value of x is ?
