Solving Rational Equations

This document discusses rational expressions, equations, and functions. It provides examples and procedures for solving rational equations. Specifically, it defines rational expressions as ratios of polynomials, rational equations as equations involving rational expressions, and rational functions as functions of the form f(x)=p(x)/q(x) where p(x) and q(x) are polynomials and q(x) is not the zero function. The document then gives the procedure for solving rational equations, which is to eliminate denominators by multiplying each term by the least common denominator and then checking solutions in the original equation. It provides examples of rational expressions, equations, and functions, and an activity for students to determine which are rational and find solutions to given rational

SOLVING RATIONAL EQUATIONS

Procedure:
1. Eliminate denominators by multiplying each term of
the equation by the least common denominator.
2. Check the solutions of the transformed equation with
the original equation.
