Population education policies
• Nearly 40% of population are school going
• Many research studies have brought out the result showing the
positive correlation between literacy and population control
• 6-11- free universal primary education
• Free and compulsory education until they complete the age of 14
(article 41,45,46 of the directive principles)
• Adult education system- organises in the governmental sector
engaged adult literacy
Constitutional provisions on population education
programme
• Central list- Entry 69 of the central list of subject in the 7th
schedule of the constitution relating to Article 246 lists
‘census’
• Concurrent list- Entry 20 A of the ‘concurrent list’- population
control and family planning Entry 25 of the concurrent list
includes education both central as well as state government
are charged with the responsibility of population control,
family planning and population education

• Tackling the problems of growing rate of population,
population education programme was launched with effect
from April 1980
• Create awareness in the younger generation, an adequate
awareness of the population problems and realisation of
responsibilities towards nation.
