1 Introduction

1.1 Objective
The project developed is a web based application that will help the users to shop for their
personal computers online. The software will provide the users with graphical interfaces which
will help them to chose appropriate model and then customize them. The users can also
compare between models of different or same brands.

1.2 Major Functions

The application will be primarily used by two types of user. First will be the general user who
wishes to make a purchase. Second will be the administrator of the software. The
administrator is the super user of the application. He has the entire control of the system. The
major functions specific to the two types of the above mentioned users are:-

 The Administrator

• Add product

• View user transactions

• Watch user activities

 The General user

• Register themselves to the site

• Login to the site

• Browse computers

• Compare between different models of same or different brands

• Customize the product

• Purchase the product

1.3 Performance Issues

Factors critical in deciding the performances of the software are:-

• Internet Connection:-
Being predominantly a web based application, fast internet connection is a necessity.
Slow connections may hamper performance.

• Server Performance:-
Performance may also be hampered by excessive net traffic.

1.4 Management and Technical Constraints

 Managerial Constraints

• Completing the project in the designated time period is the biggest constraint
ahead.

• To include all the functions of the project above mentioned in the application
will be another constraint.

• Distributing and completing tasks will be another constraint.

 Technical Constraints
The Software will be developed in platforms which are open source. So as such there
will be no specific technical constraints. More over being a web based application; the
software will be accessed via the web browsers such Firefox, I.E etc. installed on
PC’s. So it will be platform independent. Few technical constraints which might come
in the way are:

• Database designed should be normalised.

• The credentials of user should be encrypted and then stored in the

database.

• The transfer of funds for purchasing should be through a secured connection

2 Schedule

2.1 Work Breakdown Structure

The following work breakdown structure (WBS) shows the project’s discrete key elements. It
organises and defines the total work scope of the project. It shows the various subdivisions of
works required to attain the project.

2.2 Task Network Representation
The following diagram shows the detailed task network representation of the estimated time
slots that will be allotted to the key elements introduced in the WBS. Each block tells us the
name of the key feature and the time (in days) that will be given to it.

2.3 Gantt chart

The following gantt chart indicates the starting and ending dates of the various key elements
introduced in the WBS. It also tells about the interdependence between the elements.

3 Project Resources

3.1 People
The software will be developed by a group of 4 people. The members of the group are:

• Anirudha Sengupta

• Kshitij Jain

• Sumang Bajaj

• Piyush Chowdhary

The minimum software requirements are:
Server Side:
As the Web Application will be designed on Java, therefore Java must be installed on
the server side. For database purpose MySql will be used.
Client Side:
This being a Web Application a browser must be installed on the user’s computer.
