Logic Gates Logic Gates Symbol Truth Table Function: A AB B AND

The document describes several common logic gates: 1) AND gates output high only if all inputs are high. OR gates output high if one or more inputs are high. 2) NOT gates invert their single input. NAND and NOR gates can also function as NOT gates depending on their configuration. 3) Exclusive OR (XOR) gates output high if exactly one input is high, while Exclusive NOR (XNOR) gates output low under the same condition.

GATES LOGIC GATES SYMBOL TRUTH TABLE FUNCTION

The AND gate is an electronic
A 2 Input AND gate circuit that gives a high output
AND A B AB (1) only if all its inputs are high.
AB A dot (.) is used to show the
0 0 0
Gate B AND operate i.e. A.B. Bear in
0 1 0
AND 1 0 0 mind that this dot is sometimes
1 1 1 omitted i.e. AB

2 Input OR gate The OR gate is an electronic

OR A A+B A B A+B
circuit that gives a high ouput
Gate (1) if one or more of its inputs
B 0 0 0
are high. A plus (+) is used to
OR 0 1 1
show the OR operation.

The NOT gate is an electronic

circuit that produces an
inverted version of the input of
its output. It is also known as an
inverter . If the input variable is
NOT GATE A, the inverted output is known
NOT as NOT A. This is also shown as
A Ā A’, or A with a bar over the
Gate A A
0 1 top,, as shown at the outputs.
1 0 The diagrams below show two
ways that the NAND logic gate
can be configured to produce a
NOT gate. It can also be done
using NOR logic gates in the
same way.

This is a NOT-AND gate, which is

2 INPUT NAND Gate equal to an AND gate followed
A AB A B AB by a NOT gate. The outputs of
all NAND gates are high if any of
NAND B 0 0 1
0 1 1 the inputs are low. The symbol
Gate is an AND gate with a small
1 0 1
1 1 0 circle represents inversion.
This is NOT-OR gate which is
equal to an OR gate followed by
a NOT gate. The outputs of all
NOR gates are low if any of the
inputs are high. The symbol is
an OR gate with a circle on the
output. The small circle
invensions.

The ‘Exclusive-OR’ gate is circuit

which will give a high output if
either, but not both, of it’s two
inputs are high. An encircled
plus sign ( Ꚛ ) is used to show
the EOR operation.

The ‘Exclusive-NOR’ gate circuit

does the opposite to the EOR
gate. It will give a low output if
either, but not both, of its two
inputs are high. The symbol is
an EXOR gate with a small circle
on the ouput. The small circle
represents invesion.
