From the Michael Cacoyannis Production “ZORBA THE GREEK.” An International Classics Presentation.
THEME FROM “ZORBA THE GREEK”
IMIKIS THEODORAKIS
‘A cxrcled number(@) indicates the string on whivl « note should be played. In this arrangement, you
are told to play the first D# on the second string @). Since both D# and B# are on the same string, it be-
comes necessary to play the lower note (B#) on the next lower string(Q). These two notes are then moved
‘up one-half step to E and C#, with the E played on the second string (2). Much of "Zorba" is made up of
these sling thirds
In the section beginning with measure 16, the thirds are to be played as grace notes. To achieve this
effect, the bass note A should be struck at the same time as the grace notes BE and G#, Remember, grace
notes are not counted by themselves. They merely borrow time from the adjacent notes,
‘The left hand fingering of measure 16 permits the use of a 3/4 bar on the fist fret and sliding the bar
to the next two notes.
‘Once you understand these two principles you should not have any trouble playing the arrangement.
