Greetings Dear Friends,
It has been a while since our last update
~ and much has happened during that time.
V
~ First we had a wonderful visit with Tyler's
~ [;amily including his sister and her family,
V
~ along with Tyler's parents. They were
rJ1
£ollowed by a group of ten from our home
~ church in Canada. It was wonderful to see
V so many familiar faces and meet a few
Z new ones. This summer we also celebrated
our 13th wedding anniversary and Myah's
0 6th birthday. Last week we celebrated the
~
0 3rd anniversary of our arrival in Peru and
N Hannah's 12th birthday. We have one
~ more year until we officially have a
~
ro t eenager. Yikes!

Tyler s Ministry Update
Things have been very busy at the Juniper
Tree Home. We have hosted about a half
dozen teams who have built a new
~ 6mx 12m workshop/tool room. This build-
1ng houses all of our tools and is currently
~ being used to store materials and furniture,
but we have plans of slowly buying
.--
~ C arpentry tools and machinery and starting
our own carpentry shop. The team that we
ust had, helped us by running all the
c abIes to our new shop and doing all the
mtemal installations.
The sports court has been completed and
t he kids are loving it. It features a
:s
~
18mx25m soccer court which can be
converted into 2 good sized volleyball
c ourts. The soccer goals have recently
been painted and have new netting and are
about to have basketball hoops extended
from the tops of them.
We have been putting a real push on our
~ small animal farm projects over the past
U month. First of all we bought 6 rabbits
from the local agricultural university and
are working on a breeding schedule for
t hem that will provide a steady output of
V) meat for our tables. We are also preparing
V) t o start worm compo sting system. We
r ecently built a new pigpen and bought 2
0 female pigs. They along with the male we
already had, we hope will also provide us
with a good number of offspring.

Tyler S Ministry Update Continued ...
In the month of November, we will be putting cupboards in the kitchens ofthe houses and closets in the moms bed-
rooms. The kitchen cupboards will be made of cedar by a local carpenter. The bedroom closets are also made of cedar,
but are closets that we rescued from our old children's home, that we will be modifying to fit in their new location.
A new aspect of Tyler's ministry is joining a newly formed team at the Juniper Tree that is seeking to better prepare the
children that we are ministering to, for life beyond living at our home. This is going to be accomplished by having the
children go through an application process to be accepted onto crews that are responsible for various chores. For exam-
ple they could be on the gardening crew that will be in charge of planting, maintaining and harvesting the vegetables as
well as cutting and maintaining all the grass onsite. Or the children could be on the animal care crew. They would be
responsible for feeding the animals, cleaning their pens, tending to the worm farm or even looking after the logistics of
shipping the rabbit furs to other parts of Peru. There will be many other crews to join and we hope that starting with a
job interview and maintaining the standards of a workplace, we will be preparing these young people for their futures.
The other thing that Tyler hopes to be undertaking when we return from furlough is teaching English classes to the chil-
dren at the home. We will be looking for the needed materials while in Canada and the U.S.
Clothing Exchange at the Oasis
This September Brenda organized the first ever clothing exchange at the Oasis. It involved asking
the families to bring in clothing that their families were not using, that were still in good condition,
for others to use. With their donation of clothing, each family receives points as a credit for new
clothing they could take on the day of the exchange.
It took a fair bit of work to organize, but the idea was well received by the families at the Oasis
(care center) and we hope to have another exchange in the month of November. This time we hope
to extend the invitation to families in the community surrounding the Oasis, opening a door for us
to witness and minister to them.
I would like to thank everyone who donated new undergarments for this exchange. They were one
of the most sought after items and greatly appreciated.
What do You Know About Composting?
I am hoping to begin a composting program with the families at the Oasis, starting in the
new year. If you have not yet been here to see it, Manchay could be best described as a
gravel pit. This leaves little to no hope of cultivating a garden. My hope is that we can begin
composting much of the organic waste that is produced by the families and use it to make
small gardens for each family to grow a few different vegetables to help reduce their food
costs.
I would like to know:
• What kinds of things work best in a com poster?
• How long does it take for things to break down?
• Is there anything that needs to be done to help the process?
• How do I build a composter that will keep rats out, yet still allow for proper ventilation?
• What are some vegetables that would grow well in small container gardens?
I am looking for advice and help with compo sting. If you have any experience and would be willing to share your
knowledge please let me (Brenda) know. tbfoss@[Link]
Financial Support Needs
We have recently completed three years of ministry here in Peru with Kids Alive. As we have fmished this term and
prepare for our second we have been evaluating our support needs. There have been a number of areas where our costs
have increased substantially and it is necessary to increase our monthly support to help with these expenses. We
understand the economic crisis that has hit the world and know that many people are living with added stress and
financial pressures. We also trust however, that God is fully capable of providing for our needs. We are looking to raise
an additional $500- $700 per month. This will help with our raising housing rental, food and education costs.
Over the past few months we have also been discussing the possibility of a buying a second vehicle. With both Tyler and
Brenda ministering in different towns it is becoming more difficult to be where we need to be and be able to effectively
serve with one car. Much of Brenda's work is visiting with different families in Manchay and it is necessary to have a car
to arrive there safely. Tyler works in Pachacamac most days which is about a forty minute drive from our home, he also
needs a car for much of his work in construction. We are hoping to find a reliable used car or small truck that is relatively
inexpensive that will adequately fill this need.
We are hoping that you will pray about these needs with us, as we seek God's will in these matters.
Upcoming Furlough
We will begin our furlough on December 9th ofthis year. It is our hope that we will be able to spend time with
