Skellig Speech
Bird or angel?
Good morning Mr. Pitt and class. The oxford dictionary defines an angel as follows:
God’s assistant conventionally represented as a human with wings.
Skellig is a human with wings. This increases the likelihood that skellig is an angel. We cannot be
sure of anything in the case of skellig. Thus we should look at the positive evidence from both
sides of the arguments and see which argument seems more plausible. Therefore negative
arguments against either side will neither increase nor decrease the probability that skellig is an
angel. Angels come from the bible therefore we must look at what the bible describes angels as
rather than form deluded stereotypes from books and movies. Nowhere in the bible does it say
that an angel is a flawless consummate or has to be a grandeur, elegant, nimble, omnipotent
human being. However it does say the opposite which is that only god is perfect and nothing
else is. Therefore angels are not perfect and commit sins. The bible also says that angels do not
have to believe in god.
My second point is that saying that there is no scientific proof of angels therefore skellig does
not exist is like saying that there is no scientific proof that humans can fly therefore superman
does not exist as a character in superman comics. My point is that we should not get scientific
evidence in reality mixed up with appearance in fiction. Just because there is no scientific
evidence in the real world does not mean a character in a book cannot exist in the book.
My next point is that birds wings do not have a limb that attaches wings to the body of the bird
rather the wing is directly joint to the body of the bird. Therefore skellig could not have been an
evolutionary creature from a bird. Since evolutionists believe in natural selection, if skellig was
an evolutionary bird, then there would also be other ‘bird men’. Just like how humans evolved
from apes and there are other humans around. If David Almond wanted to represent skellig as
the evolutionary result of a bird, then he would have presented skellig with other Bird men like
skellig.
Skellig’s angelic claims can be backed up by the fact that he healed joy in a few seconds and
was considered a medical miracle by doctors. This could not have been done without any
supernatural powers and abilities. Birds would not be able to do this neither would humans.
Therefore if skellig is either an angel, bird or human or a cross between a bird and human, it
would be an angel. Therefore this increases the likelihood by a huge number that skellig is an
angel.
Darwin’s theory of evolution says that the evolutionary product of something results in the
brain being similar to the original creature. So if Skellig evolved from a bird, then his brain
would be similar to that of a bird. It has been found that the slightest drops of alcohol
consumed by a bird would do serious damage to almost all parts of the brain of the bird and
sometimes even kill the bird. Skellig was described to have been drinking alcohol in a few
scenes. Therefore if skellig was the evolutionary result of a bird he would have been dead by
the end of the book due to his consumption of alcohol.
Birds have been around for exactly the same time as apes. Apes have brains that are almost 20
times more advanced in terms of intelligence compared to birds. Since birds originated the
same time as apes did, then the rate of evolution of birds would be directly proportional to the
rate that apes evolved. Therefore, if skellig was the result of evolution from birds, he would be
20 times more unintelligent than the average human being. Therefore he would not have been
able to learn or speak English.
The Darwinian Theory also states that if one part of an evolutionary result is similar to that of a
basic creature there are usually other external features that have evolved from the basic
creature. Therefore skellig would have had other external features similar to birds or different
to humans if he was the evolutionary result of a bird.
Since the physiology of apes is different from birds and apes and birds originated at the same
time, the evolutionary result of birds should be vastly different from the evolutionary result of
apes (which is humans). Since birds have had the same time to evolve as apes, the result of
evolution should be vastly different from apes. Since birds and apes even at the time of origin
did not look alike at all and had the same time to evolve, they should look vastly different now.
Therefore the evolutionary result of a bird should not look anything like a human. Therefore
Skellig should not look anything like a bird if he evolved from an ape or a human if he evolved
from an ape or a human or if he evolved from a bird.
The Darwinian theory of evolution also states that no evolutionary product is the result of two
basic creatures they may look similar but they are never evolved from two animals. Therefore
skellig could not have evolved from apes and birds. Therefore skellig could only be an angel.
Michael and mina looked through numerous biology books on evolution of birds but they could
not find anything that looked like skellig’s wings therefore, skellig could not have been a bird or
a cross between a bird and a human. Skellig could only be an angel.
It is likely that david almond went through these possible descriptions since he had hired
researchers and biologists to research the evolution of birds to have an accurate description of
what he wanted to represent skellig as.
In conclusion Skellig is a fictional character and scientific evidence should not get in the way of
fiction unless to disprove the proof evolutionists may have to prove the existence of skellig
through evolution.
