Design An On-Grid PV System

The document outlines the design of an on-grid PV system for a house in Amman, Jordan. It analyzes 12 months of energy consumption data to determine a system size of 1.92 kW, using 6 modules of 325W each. An inverter model is selected based on the module specifications and string configuration requirements. The number of modules per string is calculated considering the inverter and module ratings, with the design using 6 modules per string.

Design an on-Grid PV System

Objective :
Design an on-grid PV System for my house .

 In the last 12 months the load was as the following :-

Month Energy Consumption (KWh)
January 254
February 237
March 208
April 238
May 252
June 245
July 229
August 328
September 296
October 254
November 272
December 263

 The average load calculated by :

∑ 𝒍𝒐𝒂𝒅 (𝟐𝟓𝟒+𝟐𝟑𝟕+𝟐𝟎𝟖+𝟐𝟑𝟖+𝟐𝟓𝟐+𝟐𝟒𝟓+𝟐𝟐𝟗+𝟑𝟐𝟖+𝟐𝟗𝟔+𝟐𝟓𝟒+𝟐𝟕𝟐+𝟐𝟔𝟑)
= = 256.34 kwh
𝟏𝟐 𝟏𝟐
 I will design at 270 kwh . “factor of safety “.
Then for 140 kWh (energy) requires 1 kWp (power)
(270 kwh / 140 h)= 1.92 kw
Number of module = 1.92/.325 =5.9 ≈6
** design :
 The location for my house ;-
 Amman , almuqableen
 Latitude : 32° long : 36° Altitude: 900 m

 Orientation of plane :

** Year irradiation yield :

Tilt angle : 30° Azimuth angle : 0°

Select module with 325 watt .

 Module ζ = 16.7% .
 Impp = 8.72 A
 Voc = 46.3 V
 Isc = 9.24
 Vmpp = 37.3

Then from ABB I select inverter type UNO-3.0-TL-OUTD ( 3200 W)

 Vmax,abs=600 v .
 (Vmppt,min-Vmppt,max) = (200-500)V .
 Idc,max = 16 A .

.now to calculate the number of panels per string
(based on Maximum& Minimum MPP Tracking Voltage) :
 Highest operating rang = 60 C°
 Lowest operating rang = -2 C°
 Voltage reduction per C°= 0.33%
 Voltage reduction @ -2 = (25—2)*.33% = 9 %
 Voltage reduction @ 60 = ( 60-25)*.33% = 11.22%
 Voc @ lowest Temp. =
Voc* ( 1+voltage reduction @ lowest) = 46.3*(1+9%) = 87.97 V
 Vmpp @ highest Temp. = Vmpp *(1+11.22%)=41.5 V
𝑉𝑑𝑐,𝑚𝑎𝑥 600 𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑙𝑒
 Maximum # of modules in a string = = ≈7
𝑉𝑜𝑐@𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑠𝑡 87.97 𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔
𝑉𝑚𝑝𝑝𝑡,𝑚𝑖𝑛 200
 Minimum # of modules in a string = =
𝑉𝑚𝑝𝑝@ℎ𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑝 41.5
=5 module /string .

5< module/string < 7

I will selected 6 module / string
 Then I have 6 module in one string

Now check on the current:

Isc = 9.24 A for one string

9.24 A < Idc 16 A
Perfect . .
