The Pro Tools interface

 Lossles audio files: Full resolution

 BIT DEPTH: Amount of dynamic information stored in each audio
sample. The more resolution selected the more dynamic variation are
going to have. 24 bit is a good number
 SAMPLE RATE: number of times an analog signal is measured per
second. The higher the better quality.44.1 is common in audio and
production.
 Create metronome track for check if everything is fine on our
speakers or headphones. Route: TRACK ---- Create Click Track
 In case there are problems go to playback engine. Align to the name
of interface
 EDIT WINDOW or ARRANGEMENT and the other one is MIX
WINDOW.
 Shortcut: (COMMAND + =)
 In the top left corner of the EDIT WINDOW we have our edit modes
the more commons are grid and slip
 GRID MODE: it allows snap our regions to a time grid you create
 SLIP: Allows to move to anywhere that you want
 Bellow edit modes you have the track selector and groups.
 Next to edit mode there are the tools, the important the multi tool.
You can select choosing the top of the bar.

 Different categories
 To record shortcut is (Command Space bar or FN 12)
 Count off gives two bar before recording
 If you don’t see it you can go to window and Transport
 QUANTIZING: Align notes to the timing grid
 To access quantization settings, we make double click on the midi
region for open the midi editor.
 We can change the notes we play and the length pressing from the
end
 Shortcut:
(COMMAND + A) for select all the notes
(Option + 0) for open quantization window
 Quantizing use the tempo and grid to be able to snap each one of the
midi notes into perfect time depending on the note value you choose
 Once you select the sound, double click on the name to rename it.
Use original names for recognize it.

Audio Tracks

 Set up mic clicking on Setup--- Playback Engine select interface.

 It’s necessary to use headphones because if the audio come out from
the speakers it will produce a feedback.
 Create new track and select audio track and mono. We use mono
when we use only one microphone
 If it is a condenser microphone turn on the phantom power, dynamic
don’t need
 Mute first the audio when you are testing, then select the input where
the microphone is assigned, then activate record
 Try to keep the signal in the green area between -15 to -20 dB, it gives
headroom if the signal gets louder. Don’t up the volume if it peaks.
 The same don’t record with low level because it will not record
anything. Make sure of your gain without peaking.
 Once you get the levels you can unmute the track.

Working from Templates

 You can create a template for work more quickly when you open Pro
Tools with created settings.
 It’s recommend creating a click track, instrument track, audio track

mono makes a mono file for the right and a mono file for the left.

Exploring Midi and Software Instruments

 Recording MIDI, register the VELOCITY, which is how hard you playet
it, ATTACK, when you started to play it and RELEASE, how long you
play it.
 MIDI is not sound. Midi controller send message.
 Synthesizers are used for more electronic sounds, it makes sound with
oscilattors

Wave Basics

 Most common is SINE WAVE: Has no harmonics or overtones is clear
