Mtell P1001 - Training Introduction

The training focuses on a natural gas compressor station along a pipeline with four identical compressors that increase pressure to transport gas from production to consumption areas. Sensors on the compressors provide data for machine learning to monitor compressor 1, which has experienced mechanical issues requiring expensive repairs, reducing gas delivery and profits.

P1001: Training Introduction

The Mtell Previse training is based on a real-world example of multi-stage gas compressors transporting
natural gas by pipeline from areas of production to areas of consumption. Compressor stations are generally
located every 50 miles or so along the pipeline to increase pressure, and thereby move the gas along the
route. The training focuses on the set of four compressors at a single compressor station on the pipeline.

Reciprocating piston compressors allow the gas volume to be adjusted to meet the demand.

Sensors on the equipment provide data for machine learning. In this example, all four compressors
are identical, which allows what is learned about one machine to be shared with the others.

Since this compressor station went into operation, Compressor 1 has suffered mechanical issues, expensive
repairs, and serious interruptions, resulting in reductions in available gas moved to consumers, and financial
losses to the producers of the gas.
