In the time of the third month,the


sun is warm and the breeze is ba.lr.ny.
The leaves on the trees,and the
flowers and grass on the earth,are
in reds and greens, and are unusually
attractive.
There was a small pupil, who sat
under a tree reviewing his lessons.
The sounds from his mouth as he read
his books,and the sounds of the birds
in the trees,were in mutual harmony.

One dq,a labour union opened a meeting,
and the persons who came,were copper-
smiths,stone-masons,gold and silver
smiths,builders,etoetera.
In the midst there was an elderly person
who gave an address, and his main subject
was the four charaoters"Lao-kung shen-
sheng" ,that is "The sacrednese of labour".
The group as they listened,all nodded
their heads and said "It is so".

Chin su-hsing was fifteen years old.
His natural disposition was fondness
for etudy,but his family was poor and
had no money to enable him to study.
Each forenoon he went forth and sold
papers, and in the afternoon he went
to classes in a public school. In this

with diligence and toil,he ultimately
became a famous man.

Fu-kuei Ch'iao. Ch 11ao hsia ti shui,
shih t'ung T'ai-hu ti. Ch'iao tso,ch'iao
yu,tou shih chieh-tao. Liang pang chu-
liao wu-sbu jen-chia. Mei t'ien ch'iao-
hsia ching-kuo ti ch'uan,ho ch'iao-shang
hsing-tsou ti jen,wang-lai ju Cbih.
Chiang-nan has a great bridge,called the
Affluence and Honour Bridge. The water
below the bridge connects with the T'ai
Lake. To the left and right of the
bridge are streets and roads. On each
side there dwell innumerable families.
Each dB\Y' the boats that pass under the
bridge,and the people that walk on the
bridge,going and coming are similar to
weaving.

wu-se kuo-ch'i,ling jen k'a.n-liao yen-hua.
There was a dye-shop,in front of Which
was a large enclosure, and behind which
also was a large enclosure.
On the vacant lands in front and behind,
the racks were full o£ cloth of every
colour. There was black,there was yellow,
there was red,there was green,and very
many colours. When the sun shone it was
like numberless five-coloured national
flags,blurring the vision of those Who
gazed on them.

sheng li-fa."szu tzu. Li-mien-ti tao-wei
yung-ch'i hsiang-shui hsiang-fen teng,
huan suan ch'ing-ohieh. Chin-oh'i.i
li-fa-ti jen,ko-ko tou man-yi.
At present the methods of hairdressing,
compared with for.mer times,for the most
part have made some advance.
In a small street of a certain plaoe,
there is a barber shop,Which has written
over the door the four characters ''Wei-
sheng li-fa" (Hygienic hairdressing).
Inside the shop the chairs and utensils,
the scents and cosmetics,etc.,all m~ be
reckoned ae very clean. The people who
enter to be barbered are all satisfied.
