Pakistan Current Problems

Pakistan faces many socioeconomic problems, including issues with its education system, poverty, and water crises. The education system suffers from poor quality government schools, an unequal system favoring private schools, low budgets compared to defense spending, and madrassas that do not prepare students for the modern world. Poverty is exacerbated by government policies, high illiteracy rates, overpopulation, unemployment, and corruption. Water crises have increased due to a cycle of drought over the past 5 years and lack of sufficient dams to store water and support irrigation needs. Solutions proposed include increasing educational funding, improving rural schools, providing opportunities for the poor, and building more dams.

Pakistan’s current Problems:

Pakistan has faced so many problems since 1947

however not all problems have overcome. Now a days
it is facing many socioeconomic problems. I will
discuss some of them and will give solution of those
problems by my own idea. Some major problems
includes: Education problem, unemployment of youth,
Poverty, Water Crises, unequal distribution of wealth,
lack of human development projects and many more.
So I am going to discuss some of them.
1. Education System:
Education is the right of every human being. It has a
power to drag a human from darkness of illiteracy into the
light of knowingness. Education is also compulsory in
light of Islam. But unfortunately, according to some
report, Pakistan’s illiteracy rate is so high and ranked as
the one of the most illiterate country of Asia. Some of the
educational problems are:
 Poverty: The main problem is that our Government
schools are not that much good and the poor peoples
can’t get better education in government schools.
And there are countless number of private institutions
which provide bad quality of education. There is

Page | 0
double standards of education, one is for poor and
others for rich peoples. And many institutes are just
doing business for making a lot of money. So many
poor youth who can’t afford high fees, are doing jobs
and thus Pakistan have high illiteracy rate.
 Unequal system: For government universities, there
is no merit but a quota system so that’s not a good
thing. So there is a lack of proper planning and
government are not focusing on this. And if we see, it
is not only the mistake of government but also of the
public. Many peoples in Pakistan have narrow mind
especially the peoples of upper areas. There is gender
gap in their mind. Enrolment of rural girls is 45% less
than the urban girls.
 Budget: The other reason is that our in Pakistan our
defence budget has always been exponentially more
than our educational budget. The wars have been won
by knowledge and technology through pen and paper,
wars are never won by weapons. For the price of one
grenade, almost 20 to 30 children can go to school for
a whole year.
 Madaress students: On the other hand, in
our madrassas we are preparing people who can
never adjust in the modern society. The education
provided in madrassas is not compatible to the
modern day requirements. It is an unfair race, a
Page | 1
madrassa student’s starting line and finishing line is
more apart than the other students. It is crystal clear
that Islamic education is necessary for Muslims but it
is also a fact that without modern education no one
can compete in this world. There are many examples
of Muslim scholars who not only studied the Holy
Quran but also mastered other subjects like physics,
chemistry, biology, astronomy and many more, with
the help of Holy Quran. I think with the current
educational system, we are narrowing the minds of
our children. There is no doubt that our children are
talented, both in madares and in school, we have to
give them a proper groom, give them space to
become useful.
 Untrained Teachers: There are plenty of untrained
teachers especially in government institutes who are
not focusing on child’s future but only focus on their
money so they are unable to train the nation.
Solutions:
For the value of education, government should take some
important steps on this issues. Educational funds should be
provided to institutes wisely. And for rural areas,
government should provide a quality education there so
they couldn’t need to travel to urban areas. The quality of
government institutes should made a better educational

Page | 2
institutes. For poor peoples, government should provide
every facility so that they do only focus on their education
and not on jobs etc. Workshops must be arrange for
teachers. Technical education should be given to all class
of education. Education is the only cure of the instability
in the state and can bring revolution through evolution, by
eradicating the social evils. This is how to remove illiteracy
in Pakistan.

2. Poverty:
Poverty is the condition in which person do not have
the means to afford basic human needs like clean water,
health care, nutrition, shelter, and education. Poverty is
the condition of having fewer resources or less income.
Poverty is one of the major social problems which
Pakistan is facing. It is one of the most important issue
which is not faced by Pakistan only but faced by whole
world. Poverty can also cause some other social problems
like theft, bribe, corruption, lawlessness, injustice etc.
Neediness has been one of the most serious issues
that Pakistan faces today. It is appropriately said that
neediness anyplace is a danger to thriving all over.
Almost 60 for each penny of the number of inhabitants in
Pakistan lives in towns. As indicated by an investigation,

Page | 3
neediness has expanded generally from 30% to 40% in
the previous decade. It implies that 40 for each penny of
the nation's population is acquiring their business beneath
the neediness line. In such condition individuals are
discouraged of their essential necessities of life.
Legitimate training and pharmaceutical are getting to be
inaccessible from them. They are compelled to think
about their survival just off because of destitution and
joblessness, guardians as opposed to sending their
youngsters to schools, incline toward kid work for them.
They influence them to do as such to help their family and
utilize them as acquiring hands from the early age.
There are some reasons which is increasing poverty
day by day in Pakistan. Some of them are:
 Government policies: government is not aware of
current conditions of Pakistan. The policies of
government do not have any awareness about
common man. The suitable medical facility is not
provided to common man and the private clinics are
too costly. Education is not provided free of cost in
good quality institutes.
 Education: education sector play a very vital role in
progressing the country but unfortunately the
illetracy rate is so high in Pakistan so there are plenty

Page | 4
number of youth who are not literate and couldn’t
stand in a society because of which there is poverty.
 Overpopulation: Pakistan is facing overpopulation
problem which is increasing day by day. The growth
rate is very high in Pakistan and ranked as one the
most populated area in world. Pakistan is touching
about 200 million population now. With limited
resources, it is very difficult to control the growing
population. Poor are doing suicide because of hunger
and rich are making more and more wealth. In rural
areas especially, people having above 6-7 children in
one family and income is not that much to support all
those children.
 Unemployment: Pakistan is facing with the problem
of unemployment. Thousands of young doctors,
engineers and other educated people are out of job.
There is very talented educated peoples but we are
not getting advantage of them. So it creates
frustration in youth and it can leads toward crime.
 Corruption: corruption has turned into a noteworthy
risk to Pakistani society due to some reasons. In the
first place, the picture of Pakistan has tremendously
endured in the previous couple of decades or so as
the degenerate practices while granting gets, the
starting of outside subsidized ventures and tax

Page | 5
evasion done by abnormal state authorities earned a
terrible name for the nation.
In 1996, straightforwardness global a Berlin
based common society association, evaluated
Pakistan as the second most degenerate nation on
the planet.
 Law and Order: There are part of issues with
respect to peace. Psychological oppressor assaults
make vulnerability in securities exchanges and
individuals acquiring from stock are getting
misfortune because of which the entire nation faces
unverifiable increment in item costs
Solutions:
Administration has got central importance here; with
proper planning and good government policies the
problem can be solved. All they need to do is to appoint
competent and wall qualified economists to help them
tackle this issue and obviously their sincerity for its
solution cannot be ignored as well. A country economy is
the backbone of its country with its solution when it is
saved many problems will automatically. Alone
leadership is not enough for its solution. People of
Pakistan have too got responsibility with equal share.
People need to cooperate fully with government and

Page | 6
should be sincere with their own country and put all their
energies for eradication of poverty.

3. Water Crises:
Pakistan since last five years (1997-2002) is
passing through a cycle of draught and with reduced
storage capacity of the two reservoirs the water crisis has
reached its climax with no immediate solution in site.
Kala Bagh Dam which could have been started right away
is now more or less a dead proposal.
 Lack of dams: The other smaller dams being built
not being on the national irrigation grid system, are
of little help to alleviate or even minimize the water
shortage being felt by the Pakistan’s Irrigation
System with seventeen barrages and thousands of
miles of canal network. The result is acute water
shortage and water crisis waiting for the feasible
solution which can be implemented immediately,
since any further delay may end up in an
environmental and economic disaster. This paper
looks in depth and presents a possible solution to
overcome the crisis in immediate future.
 Pakistan’s Water Budget: the water budget of
Pakistan based on averages of last sixty years of flow
data. The actual flows in the river may be much less

Page | 7
than what is shown in the figure during the dry years
and may be more in high rain fall years. However the
deviation of high and low from this average affects
mainly the discharge flowing into the sea i.e. 32
million acre ft. while the combined discharge of 101
maf diverted into the canals remain more or less
constant.
However even this discharge into canals is now being
affected because of reduced storage capacity due to
silting of Tarbela and Mangla. The estimated water
losses from seepage, in canals, in water courses and
over irrigation are based on the average values as
shown in the water budget of Pakistan (Figure1) and
should not raise any controversy.
 Categories of Losses: In general there are two main
losses that occur during transportation and
application of irrigation water. Nothing much can be
done to check the evaporation losses except growing
of trees along the canal banks which provide shade
and thus reduce evaporation.
All the canals with few exceptions are unlined
through which seepage is taking place amounting to
18.3 maf (includes Link Canals) per year. This loss is
equivalent to almost two Tarbela reservoirs (gross
capacity 7.5 maf after silting) and more than two
Kalabagh reservoirs (max gross capacity 8.0 maf).

Page | 8
The losses estimated in the water courses amount to
7.5 maf/year, which is equivalent to one Tarbela
Reservoir.
The losses due to over irrigation amounts to 12.0 maf
per year equivalent to 1.5 Kalabagh reservoirs, or more
than 1.5 Tarbela reservoirs. Thus it will be seen the total
seepage losses in the transportation and over irrigation
totals to 4.5 times the reservoir capacity of Kalabagh dam.
Add to this the water that can be saved by adopting drip
irrigation system, wherever feasible on a country wide
scale.
 Over Irrigation: The irrigation method (i.e. method
of applying water to the field) practised all over the
country is “controlled flooding” in which water
through a single source i.e. cut in the water course is
allowed to flow down the field. Obviously areas close
to the outlet receive water much in excess than
required by the crops while the areas at the end may
not receive any water or receive less than required.
Solutions: If these dams are not constructed, Pakistan
will face a drinking water crisis and its agriculture sector
will be destroyed. In Pakistan, agriculture has a deep
connection with other industries, such as the textile and
pesticide industries. Due to a lack of water, both
agriculture and agriculture-related industries are on the
brink of total collapse. The agricultural sector is affected

Page | 9
by both the lack of water as well as the government’s
neglect: such as not providing reasonable support prices
or subsidies on fertilisers and seeds. So Government is
collecting funds for it. Which will be good for the public.
It is the only way which can help for constructing dams.
