Do you know that a student’s study result is depend on a lot of school-
related factors? It can because of their motivation, because of the way they learn, or
beacuse of the environment, etc. But according to a report, about 60% of the student’s
result is because of their teacher, teachers and their teaching method have impact on
student’s acchievement a lot, in both ways good and bad.

First, in the good way, teacher with a good method will help student a lot in
their learning. Teachers are the guiding lights for students in the dark. A good teacher
will know clearly about the weakness or the strength of their student one by one. They
understand their student, and then they will find the best way to teach for each student.
They can inspire their students to be positive, believe and treat them with respect.
“However, motivating students to learn requires a very challenging role on the part of the
teacher. It requires a variety of teaching styles or techniques just to capture students'
interests. Above all, the teacher must himself come into possession of adequate
knowledge of the objectives and standards of the curriculum, skills in teaching, interests,
appreciation and ideals. (Maria Thresa Barberos, Arnold Gozalo, Euberta Padayogdog,
2019). Study with an effective teacher will improve student’s learning skills and their
result day by day.

“Teachers affects eternity, he never tell where their influence stops." (Henry
Brooks Adams, 2015). Good method is not only about how they teach, it also include
how teacher take care of their student, take care of their feeling. Good teacher create good
method, good teacher create good student. Teachers nowaday update their teaching
method everyday, which will make students interested in their study. Student will pay
more attention in class, when student hear a lesson on class, they actually remember
about 30%. And when they review the lesson at home, it will be a lot easier. Students
need guidance from teacher as children need guidance from their parents. With the right
teaching method, teachers will know how to improve the ralationship between teachers
and students, they will know how to encourage interaction between their students. When
a teacher faced with a laborious student and a lazy one, it is a big different, and this is
their job to find the suitable way for each other. Research in Tennessee revealed that

students who were placed with highly effective teachers for three years in a row
significantly outperformed comparable students on a mathematics assessment (96th
versus 44th percentile). A good teacher is the one who care about student’s
understanding, not their mark. There are 2 main teaching methods which teachers sholud
know that is informal and formal method. With the formal method, we all know that
teacher and students will interact in a classroom. But the informal method, teachers will
let their student to go outside and discover things by themself. Teacher should not decide
which method is the better, but they should choose the best method for each subject to get
the student understand it clearly.

On the other hand, with the wrong method, students may lose interested in
study. Recent studies found that negative teacher attitudes can impact academic
achievement and increase physical symptoms of stress. If they force student to learn or do
not let them explore the world, they will be very passive. Imagine a teacher teaches
without emphathy, they go to class, talk something that already have in book, or they
even did not prepare lesson at home and they just go to the class, checking attendance. A
research by California Teachers Association shown that “performance on teaching
assessments measuring standards known to be associated with student learning”. Bad
teacher with the wrong method, they just pay attention on their salary. What is worse than
a student go to class and nobody teach him? This is really a nightmare. Some teachers
just do not have patience, they often yell at their student when he or she did not get the
point of the lesson, this will create a bashful attitude. Teacher may not create interest in
the subject or make it relevant, fail to get student's attention or build rapport with them,
teachers do not show respect with the student in front of others, use bad words like
stupid, fool or idiot, even compare with others and pinpoint weaknesses. Teachers put
down a student, make him feel demotivated to learn, make him feel that he is really a
stupid student. Compare student’s thought is circle and teacher’s thought is square, the
wrong one will cut the student’s thought into square just like them without an

explanation. This problem will make students afraid of learning new things, and also
decrease their ability of thinking.

Anthony De Mello said that “ A good teacher offers practice, a bad teacher
offer theories”. It is not all the teacher who required theories is bad, but some teachers
force their student to learn by heart all the lesson, every word must be correct as what
they teach them. A research carried out by Alex Friedman (2018) shows that a bad
teacher can damage a student’s confidence and self-perception. Students who start out
optimistic can grow to doubt their abilities. If once students start to doubt their abilities,
they start to give up on study, this will be very hard to make them interesting in study
again. Some teachers think that, the best method to teach student is that let them learn
everything by themselve, they do not even give student the answer when they ask. This
problem happens a lot in Viet Nam, this makes students confuse about what they learn, is
it right or wrong, and they will be accustomed to the ugly truth that they will not be
taught.

In conclusion, in good or bad way, teachers teaching method always play a

key role in student’s life. The way they teach, what they said always influenced their
students. That’s the reason why teaching method always impact on student’s
achievement.
