to save some ink you don’t need to print out this first

You will need the pattern which is made up from these

Eye construction
! Drill approx 9mm diameter hole in a
scrap piece of 19mm thick medium LYW
coloured timber. 19+4R
! Glue in a 9mm diameter dark
coloured dowel.
! Drill approx 4mm diameter hole in
this dark timber.
! Glue in a 4mm diameter light (LYW 19+4R)
coloured dowel.
! Cut out eye shape.

Timber Numbers show timber thickness in mm Making round dowels


Selection R - Riser thickness in mm ! Cut square dowels and chuck them
Guide Grain direction into your drill.
! With the drill going hold the dowel
Colour Intensity Colour Grain
against a moving sander until it is
L - Light R - Red S - Straight down to the correct diameter.
ML - Medium light B - Brown W - Swirly ! They tell me lathes are good for this
M - Medium sort of thing too.
MD - Medium dark ! As are plug cutters if you have the
D - Dark right size.
eg.
DBS = dark brown (ie. nearly black) with
straight grain.
MLRK = medium light red colour with
oaky grain.
Also use the photo as a guide to timber selection. Don't
worry about an exact timber match. Often close
enough is more than good enough. Sometimes For a copy of

More on timber selection


A prominent, interesting grain pattern helps
to make this bunny more interesting. Check
out the photo. I’ve called this swirly grain
LYW for want of a better word.
19 If you’ve got straight grained timber, use it
and ignore all those W’s.
