Columbia and all states
except New Hampshire.
In Alabama, seat belt laws
are primary. They cover
drivers and front seat
passengers age 15 and
older.
Children 8 years of age or
under, or 4’8” or under
should be in a child safety
seat or booster seat.

About the Travel Safe Initiative
Travel Safe is an initiative in Jefferson County, which is funded by the Alabama
Department of Transportation, the Department of Public Safety, and the
Community Preventive Services Task Force. Travel Safe advocates for the
prevention of unintentional accidents, such as motor vehicle accidents, motor
vehicle fatalities caused by not wearing seat belts, and child seat belt safety.
