A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system combined with the orthogonal frequency
division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation technique can achieve reliable high data rate transmission over
broadband wireless channels. MIMO-OFDM is the key technology for future mobile communications. This
article briefly analyzed the basic principles of MIMO-OFDM and gave the model of the MIMO-OFDM.
Introduction
Base stations consisting of large numbers of antennas that simultaneously communicate with multiple spatially
separated user terminals over the same frequency resource and exploit multipath propagation are one option to
achieve this efficiency saving. This technology is often referred to as massive MIMO. MIMO refers to the fact
that multiple spatially separated users are catered for by the antenna array in the same time and frequency
resource. Massive MIMO also acknowledges that in real-world systems, data transmitted between an antenna and
a user terminal—and vice versa—undergoes filtering from the surrounding environment.
OFDM, orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing, is a widely used digital modulation method in wireless
communications, such as WLAN, LTE, DVB-T, and 5G. OFDM belongs to the class of multicarrier modulation
schemes. OFDM decomposes the transmission frequency band into a group of narrower contiguous sub bands
(carriers), and each carrier is individually modulated. Such a modulation can be easily implemented by an Inverse
fast Fourier transform (IFFT). At the receiving end, the OFDM signal can be demodulated with a fast Fourier
transform (FFT) and easily equalized with a complex gain at each subcarrier. Several new forms of OFDM have
been proposed for 5G applications, such as CP-OFDM, F-OFDM, and W-OFDM.
Proposed Plan:
In our major project we have planned to study Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) techniques
and implement one of these techniques in to our project. OFDM is a method by which the channel is divided into
its sub-channels and exploit multipath propagation are one option to achieve this efficiency and higher data rates.
Future Scope:
The proposed OFDM technique can result in reliable high data rate transmission over broadband wireless
channels.
