1. INTRODUCTION
Hospital management system is an integrated solution that allows hospitals to record the
details with patients. This information includes details like the name of the patient, address,
mobile number, etc. This type of solution will give the ability to control all the information
from one source, instead of having different applications for data collection. The project
developed stores the various details regarding the employees as per the requirement of the
hospital and the patients visiting the hospital. It has separate records for in patients and out
patients. Each employee is provided with a separate login id and password. The password can
be changed at any time after logging in. Requirement less number of Staff to cater more
patients in same time or even less. Hospital Management System not only provides an
opportunity to the hospital to enhance their patient care but also can increase the profitability
of the organization.
The system would enable hospitals or Nursing Homes to serve the rapidly growing number of
health care consumers in a cost-effective manner. Hospital administrators would be able to
significantly improve the operational control and thus streamline operations.
Hospital Management System (HMS)
The system is designed to improve the quality and management of clinical care and hospital
health care management in the areas of clinical process analysis and activity-based costing.
Managing the key processes efficiently is critical to the success of the hospital.

1.1 Definition
Information management in hospitals is a complex task. In order to reduce complexity, we
distinguish strategic, tactical, and operational information management. This is essential,
because each of these information management levels views hospital information systems
from different perspectives, and therefore uses other methods and tools. Since all these
management activities deal only in part with computers, but mainly with human beings and
their social behavior, we define a hospital information system as a sociotechnical subsystem
of a hospital. Without proper strategic planning it would be a matter of chance, if a hospital
information system would fulfil the information strategies goals. In order to support strategic
planning and to reduce efforts for creating strategic plans, we propose a practicable structure.

2. Features
Office staff can perform various functions like appointment scheduling, billing, entering
prescriptions, lab results, patient charts, etc. through the Web. Doctors can look up their

schedules, enter schedule changes, review patient charts, look at lab results and enter
prescriptions. Patients can look up appointments, cancel them, request new appointments,
look up statements, enter credit card payments, look up their medications, receive
notifications of their lab results and change their addresses. New patients may look up
physicians by their specialty, request appointments, register themselves on line. Direct
Electronic Billing avoids paper. Patients can review statements & make payments over the
internet. Pharmacists can receive notifications regarding prescriptions, request re-fills or re-
work on a prescription.

This is diagram use for checking the stock. This module deals with all medical items. This
module helps in maintaining Item Master Maintenance, Receipt of Drugs/consumables, issue
handling of material return, generating retail bills, stock maintenance. It also helps in
fulfilling the requirements of both IPD and OPD Pharmacy.

4. Users
The Hospital Management System is mainly designed by keeping in mind all the possible
users, which are:
4.1 Doctors
4.2 Staffs
4.3 Patients
Everyone has their unique ID and passwords to access their patients and patient’s to see their
reports and medication.
4.1Doctors
Doctor has to login with unique login id and password for particular practice and if s/he is
signed up in more than one practice then s/he has to first go to that practice home page i.e.
s/he can not login to more than one practice at a time. (Since there will be different database
for different practices) After successful login s/he will be redirected to schedule for that day
to see his/her appointments, (default page). S/he doctor can make new appointment, mark
event, recall and give prescriptions.
The Doctor’s section contains the following features:
• Patient
• Appointments
• Prescriptions
• Billing
• Reports
• Patient charts
• Lab results

Lists: Patient’s list keeps track and details of all the patient registered with a particular doctor.
Along with that doctor can view the face sheet, progress note and charge slip of the patient.
The doctor can add new patient or delete exiting one. The doctor can also sort the patient list
alphabetically.

4.2 Staffs
Staff has to login with unique login id and password for particular practice after successful
login s/he will be redirected to staff’s default page. S/he can perform all functions in the
practice management as dictated by the permissions set up by the Practice administrator.
Among the staff there will be one practice administrator who will set permissions for doctors,
staff & patient

5. Conclusion
The project Hospital Management System (HMS) is for computerizing the
working in a hospital. The software takes care of all the requirements of an
average hospital and is capable to provide easy and effective storage of
information related to patients that come up to the hospital. It generates test
reports; provide prescription details including various tests, diet advice, and
medicines prescribed to patient and doctor. It also provides injection details and
billing facility on the basis of patient’s status whether it is an indoor or outdoor
patient.
