regarding the history of America along with the chair of the History Department of
Fieldston School in New York. He has taught at Harvard, Brown, and Sarah Lawrence
College. His information regarding the American Dream is extremely beneficial for my
opening page, for it describes the evolution of this American mindset. Going from the
early stages of American history all the way to the present, Cullen provides excellent
details and examples of how the dream has changed such as his notes on decentralization;
America has become less centralized on ideas of religion, race, and status. Cullen also
argues both sides of each American dream and how specific social classes had opposing
dreams. I will gladly use much of this information to hook the reader and give them an
idea of what my essay is about.

Newton, David E. Vaccination Controversies. Santa Barbara, ABC-CLIO, 2013. David E.
Newton wrote this book about vaccination controversies in the modern day, more
specifically ones about the anti-vaccination movement and possible effects of
vaccinations. Newton is the author of 400+ books and holds a BA in chemistry, an MA in
education from the University of Michigan, and an EdD in science education from
Harvard University. His information on vaccinations does cover both sides of the issue,
but focuses primarily on the scientific side of the argument, thus making this book
possibly bias. The reason I say this is because people who do not believe in vaccinations
would oppose most all ideas presented in this book, even if the book is backed by
science. Newton's research would prove to be a perfect example of voicing opinions in
the modern day; many people are heavily against the anti-vax movement, viewing it as
inhumane. It would prove to be a good counter to my argument regarding the ability to
voice your opinion; this group is being shamed for their views on a topic rather than
accepted. Whether I support them or not is not important to this project.
