Instruction to The Students:

Assignment 1, which covers Learning Outcome 1 (LO1), is an individual assignment. There are two tasks
that students need to complete. Also, students have chance to achieve higher result (Merit and Distinction)
via those two tasks.

 Plagiarism is totally unacceptable. You must cite all sources and input the information by
paraphrasing, summarising or using direct quotes. A Fail Grade is given where Plagiarism is
identified in your work. There are no exceptions.

 Your evidences/findings must be cited using Harvard Referencing Style. Please refer to
Reference guiding posted on Moodle.

 The submission format is in the form of an individual report. This should be written in a concise,

formal business style using Arial 11 or Times New Roman 13 font size and double spacing.

 The word limit is 2,000 words. If you exceed the word limit (excluding references and
administrative sections) your grade will be penalised.

 You MUST complete and submit a softcopy of your work on the due date stated on Assignment
brief. ALL late work is not allowed to submit. This rule is not waived under any circumstances.

 Grammar and spelling are extremely important. Your score will be negatively affected if you make
grammatical and spelling mistakes. Also, format and presentation of your report are taken into
consideration when marking as well. Be sure to present your report in a clear, numbered and
bulleted style (when needed).

 Read ALL Instructions on this Page and review the Pass, Distinction, Merit and Referred Criteria
attached to meet the criteria and tasks correctly. Your work should be neatly typed and bonded.
Presentation is important and of evidence of quality and business ethics.

Assessment Brief and Guidance:

You are the Marketing executive of a beverage company, and you are given the task of training newly hired
Marketing interns. You can only choose one company to work for in the following given list:
1. Heineken Vietnam
2. Sabeco
3. Suntory Pepsico Vietnam
4. Coca Cola Vietnam
5. Nestle Vietnam
6. Tan Hiep Phat
The content of training session covers the roles, responsibilities and the relationship of Marketing
department with other departments in the company. Specifically, you will have to prepare training materials
in the form of a report which covers the following tasks:
Task 1 - Explain and analyse the role and responsibilities of a Marketing Department in the context
of the given company:
 Firstly, you need to explain the definition of Marketing. You can use some existing Marketing
definitions available in books, journals or internet, or even compose one based on your own
understanding and experience in the field. Moreover, you need to relate to the case of your chosen
company and prove how that definition is applied in your company’s marketing activities.
 The Marketing Department plays a vital role in promoting the business and mission of an
organization. You need to pick 3 most important roles and responsibilities of your Marketing
department and then explain them to your Marketing interns. Also, use the case of your chosen
company to show the Marketing interns how your company’s Marketing department has fulfilled
those 3 roles and responsibilities in the past.
Task 2 - Explain and analyse how Marketing influences and interrelates with other functional
departments of your company

You need to explain and analyse how Marketing department influences and interrelates with other
departments in the company. You need to choose at least 3 of the following departments: Finance
Department, IT Department, Sales Department, Research and Development Department, Human
Resources Department, Customer Service Department. Also, beside the three compulsory departments,
you are encouraged to add more departments that you think is also strongly linked with Marketing
department activities.

Notes:
1. EXPLAIN means to give account of the purposes or reason.
2. ANALYSE means to present the outcome of methodical and detailed examination either:
● Breaking down a theme, topic or situation in order to interpret and study the interrelationships
between the parts and/or
● Of information or data to interpret and study key trends and interrelationships.
Analysis can be through activity, practice, written or verbal presentation
3. EVALUATE means to work draws on varied information, themes or concepts to consider aspects,
such as:
● Strengths or weaknesses
● Advantages or disadvantages
● Alternative actions
● Relevance or significance.
Students’ inquiries should lead to a supported judgement showing relationship to its context. This will
often be in a conclusion. Evidence will often be written but could be through presentation or activity.
